Paw Print Keepsakes in Malaysia: what to know
In Malaysia, as elsewhere, families increasingly keep a print even when they choose communal cremation or a simple burial. It's affordable, and it works whether or not ashes come home. If cost is a worry, start there: making one at home is cheap, and you can decide on finishing it, or not, much later.
In Malaysia, most families arrange aftercare through their vet, who works with one or more pet crematoria. Prints are commonly offered but not always mentioned, so it's worth asking by name. You can also take a print yourself at home, which gives you full control over timing and the number of copies.

How Malaysia thinks about cremation, and why prints matter
Aftercare habits in Malaysia vary with family, faith and where you live, and reliable cremation figures aren't published. A paw print sits comfortably alongside any tradition: it can be kept at home, set into a grave marker or engraved beside a name. It's worth arranging before the rest.
Paw print prices: kits, add-ons and finishing
In some Asian cities, the public route leaves nothing behind. Hong Kong's government, for instance, advises owners that a bagged animal can go to a refuse collection point, from where it goes to landfill[1]. Any keepsake, including a print, then depends on you or a private provider. If cost is the worry in Malaysia, a home print costs very little and can be taken before you decide anything else.
Pet funeral providers across Asia usually sell packages, and some include a paw print, a fur clipping or a small keepsake. We haven't found reliable local prices for prints on their own. For context, a Tokyo memorial park charges JPY 22,000 for individual cremation of a pet under 5 kg[2]. Ask providers in Malaysia exactly what their package covers.
| Place or item | Published price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tokyo, individual cremation, pet under 5 kg | JPY 22,000[2] | Tax included; ask about a print |
| Singapore, private cremation, cat under 5 kg | SGD 280[3] | Niches extra |
| Hong Kong, individual cremation, 1 to 5 kg pet | HKD 1,300[4] | Basic package |
| Paw print add-on (US median, for comparison) | about $32[5] | No published local price found |
If a number here surprises you, the primary material is Singapore Pet Columbarium and PETMENTO (Hong Kong pet funeral provider); we only apply it to this.

Local rules worth knowing in Malaysia
There are no rules about taking a paw print; it's yours to do at home, at the clinic or at the crematory. Where Malaysia does have rules is what happens next: whether your pet can be buried at home and where ashes can be scattered. Those choices can affect your print too, for example if you want it set into a garden stone or a grave marker.
In order: the print, the aftercare, the keepsake
- Decide who will take the print: you, your vet, or the crematory when your pet arrives. Whoever does it earliest gives you the most say over the result.
- Tell the crematory in writing you'd like a print, and request a picture of it ahead of the cremation.
- Ask how your pet is identified between pickup and return, so there's no doubt the print and ashes are theirs.
- Ask about fur clippings too; many providers can add a lock of fur to the print.
- Plan the finishing later. Jewelry or artwork can wait as long as it needs to; make that choice once you feel ready.
- If you'd like help, send us a few details and we'll reply by email with options.
Shelf, wall or garden: where the print ends up
Some families bring the print out once a year, on the anniversary or on the day their pet came home, and add something new: a photo, a pressed flower, a note from each person. Over time the box or frame becomes a record of how the family carried the memory. If an anniversary hits harder than expected, you're not alone; in RSPCA research on pet loss, 66.9%[7] of owners were surprised by how intense their grief was.
If Malaysia is not quite where you are, all locations has the rest. Otherwise the services page, the tools and the poll results are the useful next stops.

Questions people ask
What do other owners in Malaysia choose for a paw print keepsake?
We don't publish made-up figures on that. We do run short, anonymous polls on what readers chose, from clay discs to engraved jewelry, and you can see the live results. They count one vote per person and aren't a scientific survey, but they give a feel for how other owners decided.
Can I get a hoof print from a horse in Malaysia?
Yes. Ask your farrier to trim and clean the hoof, then press it into a thick clay slab or paint the sole with non-toxic paint and press it onto heavy card. Many horse owners also keep the last shoe and a braid of tail hair. Do it while your horse is still well if you can.
How much does a paw print cost in Malaysia?
Published prices for prints alone are scarce, because most are sold within a cremation package or quoted on request. As a benchmark, a US crematory network lists a clay paw print at $76[8], and a UK studio casts a small dog's paw in resin from about £120[9]. Ask local providers for a written price.
How many communities do you cover in Malaysia?
We have local paw print keepsake guides for 1 communities in Malaysia, including Kuala Lumpur. Each page covers timing, weather, local prices and how to ask your vet or crematory for a print.
Should I take a print of my senior pet now?
If you can, yes. A relaxed, living pet usually gives the crispest print, and there's no time pressure. Choose a calm, good day, after a meal or a walk, and take several so you can keep the clearest. Many owners in Malaysia say the afternoon itself becomes a memory.
Are there rules about paw prints in Malaysia?
No. You can take, keep, post and display a paw print, cast or ashes pendant freely. The rules in Malaysia cover burial and scattering, which matter if you plan a garden stone set with the print or want to scatter ashes after keeping a pinch for jewelry.
