How owners in Eindhoven get a paw print
Cremation is common in the Netherlands, and many Eindhoven families bring a pet's ashes home in a simple container and choose a memorial later. That time lets you decide whether you want a single urn, keepsakes for family abroad, jewellery or a garden stone, and to compare quality and prices calmly instead of deciding on the first day. There is no deadline.
Eindhoven's terraced houses and apartments often have small gardens or balconies, which suit compact memorials: a small urn on a shelf, a paw print impression, jewellery holding a little ash, or a small stone in a planter. If you're an international resident who may move on, choose something portable that can come with you. Weatherproof materials matter on a balcony exposed to rain, so ask about finishes before you buy.
Home goodbyes are increasingly common in Eindhoven. If you're booking an in-home vet, ask whether they bring a clay kit and whether they'll take two prints, one for each person in the family. Taking your own print the day before, when your pet is calm and comfortable on their own bed, is another option and often gives a cleaner result.
Eindhoven's population is around 231,000. The nearest larger centre is Utrecht, about 47 miles (76 km) away, which is where some providers serving Eindhoven are based.
The closest communities we cover are Utrecht (47 miles), Rotterdam (54 miles, a larger centre) and The Hague (66 miles, a larger centre). Providers serving those towns often travel to Eindhoven too, so it can be worth asking them for a quote.

Local customs and the keepsake you keep
About 68.37%[1] of people in Netherlands are cremated, so cremation and burial are both common. Pet owners are split the same way: some bury at home or in a pet cemetery, others choose cremation. Either way, a print should be taken first. With a burial you usually have more time and can do it yourself; with cremation, ask the vet or crematory when you book.
Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023) is where the Netherlands figure comes from. It counts people; we use it because attitudes to cremating a pet in Eindhoven tend to follow attitudes to cremation generally.
Getting a clean print in Eindhoven in any season
Local weather in Eindhoven affects a paw print more than you might think. In hot, dry spells, air-dry clay can crack if it dries too fast, so dry it slowly indoors and turn it often. In humid months it stays soft for longer, so be patient. In cold weather, warm the clay in your hands and never let plaster freeze before it has set.

Budgeting for a print and what it becomes
Europe has more pet cats than dogs: about 108 million cats[4] against roughly 89.6 million dogs[5]. Cat paws are small and neat, so a print of all four often fits on one card or a single clay disc, and many crematoria include one for cats within the package. Before choosing a provider in Eindhoven, ask whether VAT is included and whether the print is clay, ink or both.

Landlords, parks and permits in North Brabant
Rules in North Brabant mostly cover the practical side of a pet's death: where a body can be buried, how deep, and where ashes may be scattered. None of it stops you taking a print. It's worth knowing, though, because a print set into a stone often goes where the burial or ashes go, and a landlord or homeowners' association can have its own say.
In the Netherlands, ask your vet or dierencrematorium for a pootafdruk before cremation; many offer clay or ink prints within their packages. Several Dutch pet insurers contribute toward cremation costs, so check your policy. The damp climate slows air-dry clay, so allow extra drying time before framing.
In order: the print, the aftercare, the keepsake
- Mention the print when you book rather than waiting until the appointment itself, whether that's the euthanasia or the cremation. Ask the team to note it on the aftercare form.
- Ask what kind they take: a clay disc, an ink print or both. If you might want jewelry later, ask for an ink or inkless print as well.
- Ask for two copies if more than one person in the family would like one.
- Ask to see or photograph the print before your pet leaves the clinic, so it can be retaken if it's smudged.
- Check how it comes back: with you that day, or with the ashes later, and how it's labeled.
- Keep the paperwork so that, once everything is returned, the invoice, ashes and print can be tied together.
Turning a print into something lasting
Eindhoven has a strong design culture, and some families want a pet memorial that feels modern and personal rather than traditional. Contemporary urns, glass keepsakes with ashes set inside, or a tree planted over a biodegradable urn are all options. If you'd like to scatter ashes in the woods or on the heath, check the rules for that place first.

Questions people ask
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Eindhoven?
Usually yes. Utrecht is about 47 miles away, Rotterdam is about 54 miles away and The Hague is about 66 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
How do Netherlands attitudes to cremation compare?
Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023) puts the Netherlands human cremation rate at about 68.37%[1]. We show it on the Eindhoven page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
Will I have to travel to Utrecht to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Utrecht (roughly 47 miles from Eindhoven) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Can I take the print myself before the vet or crematory arrives?
Absolutely, and many people prefer to. Have the clay warmed or the card taped down before the appointment, choose a quiet room and take a few prints while your pet is calm. If collection is happening after a home euthanasia, the team will usually wait a few minutes while you take one afterwards too. Just let them know.
Is a paw print included when a vet comes to our home in Eindhoven?
Often, but not always. Many home-visit vets bring a clay kit and include one print in their fee; others charge for it or leave it to the crematory. Ask when you book, and check whether a flat ink copy is possible as well. Home goodbyes are no longer unusual: in the Dog Aging Project, 22.8% of dogs who were euthanized died at home[7]. You can also take your own print before the vet arrives.
How do I get my pet's paw print in Eindhoven?
You have three options. Take it yourself at home with clay or an ink kit, ideally while your pet is still well. Ask your vet or in-home euthanasia vet to take one at the appointment. Or ask the pet crematory to take one at intake, before cremation. Whichever you choose, ask for it in advance and check the print is clear before your pet leaves.
