Wildomar, California
Arranging a paw print around Wildomar
The Santa Rosa Plateau rises west of Wildomar, with oak woodland and grassland that many residents love. The reserve is protected land, so do not scatter there without permission. Many families instead scatter part of the ashes on their own land, under a favorite oak or by the paddock, and bring the remainder indoors in a lidded urn. A photo of the plateau in spring bloom can sit beside it.
Wildomar's population is growing quickly, and many families arrived recently from coastal counties or other states. If you might move again, portable memorials make sense: a small urn that fits in a suitcase, a paw print plaque, or a bracelet with a sealed ash compartment. If relatives back in your old hometown want a share, small keepsake urns make dividing the ashes easy.
One advantage of a town like Wildomar is that people know each other. Your vet team has probably met your pet many times and will understand why a print matters. Small practices often keep a clay kit on the shelf for exactly this. If they don't, ask whether you can bring your own and take the print together in a quiet room.
With roughly 37,889 residents, Wildomar is the 188th-largest of the 307 California communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Moreno Valley, about 22 miles (36 km) away, which is where some providers serving Wildomar are based.
For a second opinion on price, Murrieta (5 miles, a larger centre), Lake Elsinore (6 miles) and Temecula (11 miles, a larger centre) are close enough that their providers cover Wildomar routinely. Two written quotes tell you more than any price list.
Our estimate
14,000
How many dog- or cat-owning households Wildomar has (estimate)
How we calculated this
37,889 ÷ 2.5 = 15,156 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 14,000. Homes are counted once however many pets they keep.
Our estimate
1,150
dog and cat deaths per year in Wildomar, our estimate
How we calculated this
14,000 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 1,150 a year. The real figure is unlikely to be lower.

How California thinks about cremation, and why prints matter
With about 70.5%[5] of people in California cremated, most local families already know the rhythm of a cremation: collection, a few days' wait, then the ashes come home. A print fits neatly into the start of that process, before collection. Once your pet is cremated, the chance is gone, so the first phone call is the right moment to mention it.
We take the California rate from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for Wildomar, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
Heat, humidity, cold and drying times
Whatever the weather outside, think about where the finished print will live. A sunny windowsill fades ink, a bathroom's steam softens clay, and an attic or garage swings between heat and cold. A bookshelf in a living room, away from direct light, is the safest home. If you'd like something outdoors in Wildomar, have a copy engraved in stone or metal and keep the original inside.

What paw print keepsakes cost in Wildomar
A paw print is one of the least expensive keepsakes there is. Many US crematories sell it as a small add-on: one Arizona provider lists a clay paw impression at $10, a nose print at $10 and a laser-engraved paw print at $15[6], and across the US price lists we've checked, paw-print add-ons have a median of about $32[7]. Prices in Wildomar vary by provider, so ask whether a print is already included before you pay extra.

What California allows after your pet dies
There are no rules about taking a paw print; it's yours to do at home, at the clinic or at the crematory. Where California does have rules is what happens next: whether your pet can be buried at home and where ashes can be scattered. Those choices can affect your print too, for example if you want it set into a garden stone or a grave marker.
California keeps an official directory of local governments; use it to reach the county or city office that covers Wildomar.
We keep California's burial and scattering rules in one place: the California rules summary. Before a home burial in Wildomar, also ask the city whether local ordinances add anything.
What to do first, and what can wait
- If your pet dies unexpectedly at the clinic, ask for a few minutes before you leave the room. Most teams will give you time and can bring a print kit to you.
- Say exactly what you want: clay, ink, a nose print or all three, and how many copies.
- If you can't face doing it yourself, ask a nurse or technician to take it while you wait outside, and to show it to you before you go.
- Get the crematory's name and your pet's reference number from the front desk, written down.
- If no print was taken, phone the crematory as early as you can the next day and request one at check-in.
- Leave the urn and the other extras for later. The print is the only decision that can't wait.
Shelf, wall or garden: where the print ends up
On Wildomar's larger lots, many families choose a permanent outdoor memorial: a boulder with an engraved plaque, a memorial tree grown from a bio urn, or a bench near the paddock or garden where a pet spent its days. In this hot, dry climate, granite and bronze last far longer than painted wood or resin. Drought-tolerant plants suit memorial gardens here.

Questions people ask
Where are the providers that serve Wildomar actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Moreno Valley, about 22 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Wildomar and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
Is cremation common in California?
For people, yes: about 70.5%[5] of California deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Wildomar follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Is Wildomar big enough to have several pet aftercare providers?
Probably, on the numbers. By our estimate about 14,000 Wildomar households keep a dog or cat and around 1,150 lose one each year, which is enough steady demand to support more than one provider. We derive that from population (about 37,889), household size and national ownership and lifespan figures.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Wildomar?
Usually yes. Murrieta is about 5 miles away, Lake Elsinore is about 6 miles away and Temecula is about 11 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Can I get a print of my bird's feet?
Yes, with care. Birds are light and their toes are delicate, so use very soft clay and the gentlest pressure, or an inkless kit with treated paper. Ink is best avoided because birds preen and may swallow it. An avian vet can help if your bird is nervous. The result is a lovely, delicate impression of the toes and scales.
Why do so many owners miss the chance to take a print?
Because a print has a window. By our estimate, around 1,150 dogs and cats die in Wildomar each year, many of them suddenly or at an emergency clinic, when a clay kit is the last thing on anyone's mind. Taking a print while your pet is well, or asking for one when you book aftercare, is the simplest way not to miss it.
