Cremation habits in Georgia and the print window
Human funerals in Georgia split between cremation, at about 54.2%[5], and burial for most of the rest, so pet cemeteries and pet crematories both have a local following. If you're leaning toward a cemetery plot, ask what kind of marker they allow. Some accept an etched granite plaque, some a bronze plate cast from a clay print, and some only flat stones. Heat, humidity, cold and drying times
Hot months in Savannah are the best time for an outdoor project in the shade, but not for drying a print outdoors. Direct sun on an air-dry clay disc can warp it and crack the thin edges of the toes. Bring it inside, set it on a wire rack so air reaches both sides and give it two or three days before sealing it with a matte acrylic sealer.
If your pet dies at home during June, July, August and September, keeping them cool comes first and the print second. That's one more reason to take your own print: made before collection, it's a record you created yourself. The coastal climate is hard on outdoor memorials, with salt air, humidity, heavy rain and hurricane winds. Granite and other sealed stone stand up well; some metals and resins corrode or fade. Does the Savannah climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In July, with highs near 92°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. Winters here are mild enough that burial or scattering is possible in any month.

Is ink safe on my pet's paw?
Use a pet-safe, non-toxic, water-based ink made for paw prints, not a stamp pad or permanent marker. Wipe the paw clean straight afterwards with a damp cloth or unscented pet wipe and dry between the toes so your pet doesn't lick any off. For fluffy paws, cats and anxious pets, an inkless kit, where a special wipe reacts with treated paper, avoids ink on fur altogether.
