Paw Print Keepsakes in the Czech Republic: what to know

Languages, customs and prices differ across the Czech Republic, but a clean paw print needs the same few things everywhere: a relaxed pet or a gentle hand, a firm surface, soft clay or a dry card, and a little patience. If local providers don't offer prints, a home kit ordered in advance does the job just as well.

In the Czech Republic, as elsewhere, families increasingly keep a print even when they choose communal cremation or a simple burial. It's affordable, and it works whether or not ashes come home. If cost is a worry, start there: making one at home is cheap, and you can decide on finishing it, or not, much later.

Burial, cremation and paw prints in the Czech Republic

Cremation is the everyday choice in the Czech Republic: about 85.64%[1] of people who die there are cremated. Pet aftercare tends to follow the same habits, which means most pets here end up as a small box of ashes. Ashes don't show a paw, a nose or the shape of a toe. That's a big part of why prints matter so much in high-cremation places, and why local crematories are so used to being asked for one.

The cremation figure for the Czech Republic comes from Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). It counts people, not pets, so treat it as a guide to local attitudes rather than a pet statistic.

What owners in the Czech Republic typically pay for a print

In the Czech Republic, your vet is usually the first contact and will arrange collection by a pet crematorium, which may offer a clay or ink paw print. Ask by name: a Pfotenabdruck in German, an empreinte de patte in French, a pootafdruk in Dutch. For comparison, a US crematory network lists a clay paw print at $76[2], and a UK studio casts small dog paws in resin from about £120[3].

European crematoria often price by package rather than by item. An Irish crematorium, for example, lists individual cremation from €250 for cats or dogs up to 10 kg[4]. A print is usually a modest extra within that, and jewelry or engraving from a print is priced separately by the maker. Ask providers in the Czech Republic what's included before you choose.

Burial, scattering and prints in the Czech Republic

You don't need anyone's permission to take your pet's paw print, and prints, casts and ashes jewelry can be kept, posted or carried anywhere. The rules that matter in the Czech Republic are about burial and scattering. If you plan a home burial, take the print before you begin; if you plan to scatter, keep some ashes back for a print pendant first.

In order: the print, the aftercare, the keepsake

  1. Choose one calm afternoon to print every pet in the house, starting with the most relaxed animal.
  2. Label everything before you start: write each name on the reverse of its card, or scratch an initial into the base of each clay disc.
  3. Use a separate ink pad or wipe for each animal and clean every paw straight away, so no one licks ink off anyone else.
  4. Keep each turn short, a couple of minutes per pet, with a treat after every press.
  5. Make a combined piece if you like: several paws on one large card or clay slab makes a family portrait.
  6. Store the set together with the date written on the back, so no print goes missing over the years.

Ways families in the Czech Republic keep a print close

If you'd like ashes and the print together without wearing them, an ashes-in-glass piece needs only about 1/8–1/2 tsp[7] of ashes, and the paw can be engraved on its base or a matching frame. Use our jewelry ash capacity guide to see how far your pet's ashes will go, and our ashes sharing planner if several people want a piece.

If the Czech Republic is not quite where you are, all locations has the rest. Otherwise the services page, the tools and the poll results are the useful next stops.

Questions people ask

Where can I get a paw print keepsake in the Czech Republic?

Across the Czech Republic, most vets, in-home euthanasia vets and pet crematories can take a clay or ink paw print, usually before cremation. You can also take one yourself at home with a kit. For jewelry, engraving or art, local makers and online studios both work from a clear print or a scan. Ask for the print when you book aftercare, not afterwards.

Is it better to use a local maker in the Czech Republic or order online?

Either works. A local jeweler, engraver or ceramic studio lets you see samples and hand the print over in person. Online makers usually work from a photo or scan, so the original stays at home. Ask for a proof before production and check the turnaround time.

How many communities do you cover in the Czech Republic?

We have local paw print keepsake guides for 1 communities in the Czech Republic, including Prague. Each page covers timing, weather, local prices and how to ask your vet or crematory for a print.

How much does a paw print cost in the Czech Republic?

Published prices for prints alone are scarce, because most are sold within a cremation package or quoted on request. As a benchmark, a US crematory network lists a clay paw print at $76[2], and a UK studio casts a small dog's paw in resin from about £120[3]. Ask local providers for a written price.

What do other owners in the Czech Republic choose for a paw print keepsake?

We don't publish made-up figures on that. We do run short, anonymous polls on what readers chose, from clay discs to engraved jewelry, and you can see the live results. They count one vote per person and aren't a scientific survey, but they give a feel for how other owners decided.

What if my pet is cremated far from home?

In rural parts of the Czech Republic, pets are often cremated in a larger town some distance away. Take the print locally before collection, yourself or through your vet, so you can check it. Many crematories also take one at intake as a backup and return it with the ashes.
