Paw Print Keepsakes in Valencia: what to know

Not every goodbye in Valencia is planned. Accidents, sudden illness and quiet deaths overnight happen, and many owners assume the chance for a print has passed. Usually it hasn't. As long as your pet hasn't yet been cremated or buried, a vet, a crematory or you yourself can still take a print, even a day or two later. Say so on the first phone call.

If you're in Valencia, the two things that most affect a paw print are timing and weather. Timing, because a print must be taken before cremation or burial, and collection can happen quickly. Weather, because heat cracks air-dry clay, humidity keeps it soft and frost can ruin plaster. Plan for both and you'll almost always get a clear print.

Ashes, graves and the print that comes first

In Valencia, about 50.11%[1] of people are cremated, and that share has been rising for years. Pet crematories have multiplied along with it, and most now offer paw prints, nose prints and fur clippings. Families who grew up with burial don't always know to ask, so it's worth saying plainly that you want one.

Paw print costs around Valencia, line by line

European crematoria often price by package rather than by item. An Irish crematorium, for example, lists individual cremation from €250 for cats or dogs up to 10 kg[2]. A print is usually a modest extra within that, and jewelry or engraving from a print is priced separately by the maker. Ask providers in Valencia what's included before you choose.

In Valencia, your vet is usually the first contact and will arrange collection by a pet crematorium, which may offer a clay or ink paw print. Ask by name: a Pfotenabdruck in German, an empreinte de patte in French, a pootafdruk in Dutch. For comparison, a US crematory network lists a clay paw print at $76[3], and a UK studio casts small dog paws in resin from about £120[4].

What the law in Valencia does and doesn't cover

Paw prints sit outside most regulation, but the aftercare around them doesn't. Your local council or city, and the wider rules for Valencia, may limit burying a pet at home and scattering ashes in public places. Check the notes below before you plan a garden memorial with your pet's print pressed into it.

How to make sure a print is taken in time

  1. Mention the print when you book rather than waiting until the appointment itself, whether that's the euthanasia or the cremation. Ask the team to note it on the aftercare form.
  2. Ask what kind they take: some clinics do clay only, some ink, some both. If there's any chance you'll want jewelry made, request an ink or inkless version too.
  3. Ask for two copies when several people at home would each like their own.
  4. Ask to see or photograph the print while your pet is still at the clinic; a smudged one can then be done again.
  5. Check how it comes back: in your hands the same day, or alongside the ashes later, and what name goes on it.
  6. Keep the paperwork so that, once everything is returned, the invoice, ashes and print can be tied together.

Turning a print into something lasting

Frames are the simplest option and often the most loved. An ink print on acid-free card, behind UV-filtering glass and out of direct sun, will stay crisp for decades. Add a photo and an engraved tag with your pet's name, and you have a small memorial that fits on any wall.

The services page compares what each option includes, the planning tools turn your animal's details into figures, and the poll results show what other families chose. All locations lists every region we cover.

Questions people ask

Is it better to use a local maker in Valencia or order online?

Either works. A local jeweler, engraver or ceramic studio lets you see samples and hand the print over in person. Online makers usually work from a photo or scan, so the original stays at home. Ask for a proof before production and check the turnaround time.

Can I get a hoof print from a horse in Valencia?

Yes. Ask your farrier to trim and clean the hoof, then press it into a thick clay slab or paint the sole with non-toxic paint and press it onto heavy card. Many horse owners also keep the last shoe and a braid of tail hair. Do it while your horse is still well if you can.

Can my vet in Valencia take a paw print before cremation?

Almost always, if you ask in time. Mention it when you book the appointment or the cremation, ask for it on the aftercare form and ask to see it before your pet leaves. If the vet can't, the crematory can usually take one at intake. After cremation, it's too late.

Are there rules about paw prints in Valencia?

No. You can take, keep, post and display a paw print, cast or ashes pendant freely. The rules in Valencia cover burial and scattering, which matter if you plan a garden stone set with the print or want to scatter ashes after keeping a pinch for jewelry.

What if my pet is cremated far from home?

In rural parts of Valencia, pets are often cremated in a larger town some distance away. Take the print locally before collection, yourself or through your vet, so you can check it. Many crematories also take one at intake as a backup and return it with the ashes.

Can I get more than one copy of my pet's print in Valencia?

Yes. Request two prints from your vet or crematory at the time of booking; it's a common request and usually costs little extra. Ink prints take seconds, so a home session can produce as many as you like. If you only have one original, scan it and have copies printed, engraved or cast, so every person in the family has their own without anyone giving up the original.
