How owners in Bangkok get a paw print
Many Bangkok families mark a pet's death with merit-making: offering food to monks, donating to a temple, or releasing fish or birds in the animal's name. Ashes may be kept at home in a small urn near a photo or a spirit shelf, placed at a temple, or released into a river. Choose what fits your family's beliefs; there's no single right way.
Space is tight in a Bangkok condo, so a memorial usually needs to be compact: a small urn beside a photo, a pendant or ring with a little ash, or a framed paw print. Families with a garden in the suburbs may prefer a plant or tree with a biodegradable urn. If you plan to release ashes in the Chao Phraya or the sea, ask about any rules for the spot first.
If your pet dies at an emergency or specialty hospital in Bangkok, aftercare is usually arranged through that hospital's own crematory contract, which may not be the one your regular vet uses. Staff there can often take a quick clay or ink print, but at 3 am it may not happen unless you ask. Say clearly that you want one, and if the answer is uncertain, ask the crematory to take it at intake instead.

Cremation habits in Thailand and the print window
Cremation accounts for about 80.0%[1] of human deaths in Thailand, so many households already have a shelf or cabinet where family ashes and photos sit. A pet's print tends to join that shelf. That's worth knowing before you choose a format: a clay disc needs a small stand, an ink print suits a frame the same size as your photos, and a print engraved straight onto the urn saves space altogether.
For the Thailand figure we rely on Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). Read it as a picture of local custom around death and remembrance in Bangkok rather than as pet data.
Heat, humidity, cold and drying times
If you're thinking of an outdoor memorial in Bangkok, such as a garden stone with your pet's print pressed in, the weather decides when to make it. Concrete doesn't cure well in frost or fierce heat. Take the print now in clay or ink and keep it indoors, then make the stone in a mild month when the ground is workable.

Paw print prices: kits, add-ons and finishing
Pet funeral providers across Asia usually sell packages, and some include a paw print, a fur clipping or a small keepsake. We haven't found reliable local prices for prints on their own. For context, a Tokyo memorial park charges JPY 22,000 for individual cremation of a pet under 5 kg[4]. Ask providers in Bangkok exactly what their package covers.

What Thailand allows after your pet dies
Rules in Thailand mostly cover the practical side of a pet's death: where a body can be buried, how deep, and where ashes may be scattered. None of it stops you taking a print. It's worth knowing, though, because a print set into a stone often goes where the burial or ashes go, and a landlord or homeowners' association can have its own say.
A short checklist for a clean print
- Choose one calm afternoon to print every pet in the house, starting with the most relaxed animal.
- Label everything before you start: write each name on the reverse of its card, or scratch an initial into the base of each clay disc.
- Use a separate ink pad or wipe for each animal and clean every paw straight away, so no one licks ink off anyone else.
- Keep each turn short, a couple of minutes per pet, with a treat after every press.
- Make a combined piece if you like: several paws on one large card or clay slab makes a family portrait.
- Store the set together with the date written on the back, so no print goes missing over the years.
Remembering your pet through their print
Bangkok draws people from every region of Thailand, and some families want a pet's ashes to go back to a home province or a family temple. If several relatives want to keep something, ask whether the ashes can be divided before they're returned. A memorial can also be an act rather than an object, such as feeding street animals or supporting a rescue in your pet's name.

Questions people ask
Why does the Bangkok page quote a human cremation rate?
Because it is the best local signal we have. Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023) reports about 80.0%[1] of Thailand residents are cremated. There is no official pet equivalent, and inventing one would be worse than quoting a real, clearly labelled number.
My pet was cremated without a paw print. Is there anything I can do?
You can't take a new impression after cremation, but there are good alternatives. Look through your photos for a clear shot of a paw, or of paw prints in snow, sand or mud; engravers and artists can trace one. Check old vet records, the puppy or kitten pack from a breeder, and grooming photos. Some artists can also draw a lifelike paw from pictures of your pet's feet. It won't be the exact pad pattern, but many owners find it just as meaningful.
How do I get my pet's paw print in Bangkok?
You have three options. Take it yourself at home with clay or an ink kit, ideally while your pet is still well. Ask your vet or in-home euthanasia vet to take one at the appointment. Or ask the pet crematory to take one at intake, before cremation. Whichever you choose, ask for it in advance and check the print is clear before your pet leaves.
How do I get a nose print from my cat?
Cats have small noses and dislike being fussed, so pick a sleepy moment. Use an inkless wipe or the lightest dab of pet-safe ink on a soft sponge, then touch a small folded card to the nose from the front and lift away. Expect a faint, partial print; that's normal. Take several attempts over a few days rather than persisting in one session, and wipe the nose clean afterwards so your cat doesn't lick the residue.
Do pet funeral packages in Bangkok include a paw print?
Some do, but it varies. Pet funeral providers in Asia often sell packages with collection, a short ceremony, individual cremation and an urn, and a paw print or fur clipping may be included or offered as an extra. Ask for the package contents in writing, and if a print isn't listed, ask whether they can take one before cremation.
Is ink safe on my pet's paw?
Use a pet-safe, non-toxic, water-based ink made for paw prints, not a stamp pad or permanent marker. Wipe the paw clean straight afterwards with a damp cloth or unscented pet wipe and dry between the toes so your pet doesn't lick any off. For fluffy paws, cats and anxious pets, an inkless kit, where a special wipe reacts with treated paper, avoids ink on fur altogether.
