Groveland, Florida
Arranging a paw print around Groveland
Groveland's newer homes often come with a patio and a patch of garden, so families can pair an urn on a bookshelf with a stepping stone engraved with a name, or a young tree planted in the backyard. Many households here moved in recently and aren't sure how long they'll stay, which argues for starting with something portable. Until you're certain, the remains can sit safely in the box the provider returns them in.
Groveland sits on sandy hills that bake in summer and wash out in heavy storms, which is hard on garden memorials. Granite and bronze last; wood, resin and printed photos fade within a few seasons. A flat stone bedded into the sand stays level better than a standing plaque, which can lean as the ground shifts. Inside, keep urns and keepsakes out of rooms that take the full west sun.
Small towns rarely have a pet memorial shop, but they nearly always have someone who engraves: a monument company that letters headstones, a trophy and awards shop, or a sign maker with a laser. Many will engrave a paw print from a clean scan onto slate, wood, metal or a garden stone. Take them a photo of your pet's print and ask whether they can reproduce the real pad shapes, not a generic clip-art paw.
Groveland is home to about 25,526 people, the 101st-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. Orlando, roughly 27 miles off, is the closest larger centre, and a share of the providers who cover Groveland run from there.
Groveland sits within easy reach of Minneola (5 miles), Clermont (10 miles, a larger centre) and Tavares (12 miles). A provider based in any of them will usually collect from Groveland; ask what the mileage adds to the bill.
Our estimate
9,400
How many dog- or cat-owning households Groveland has (estimate)
How we calculated this
25,526 ÷ 2.5 = 10,210 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 9,400. A household with several pets counts once.
Our estimate

Groveland families who lose a dog or cat each year (estimate)
How we calculated this
9,400 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 780 a year. Treat it as a minimum.

Ashes, graves and the print that comes first
Because Florida cremates about 72.5%[5] of the people who die there, many families have no grave to visit, for people or for pets. Something has to take the place of a headstone, and a print does that job surprisingly well. It's physical, it's unmistakably your animal, and it can hang by the front door or sit on a desk. If you plan to scatter the ashes, the print may be the only memorial you keep.
The Florida percentage above is from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) and refers to human funerals. Treat it as context for Groveland, not as a count of pets.
Heat, humidity, cold and drying times
Whatever the season in Groveland, take prints indoors in a comfortable room, not in direct sun or a cold garage. Dry the paw with a towel before using ink so it doesn't smudge, and tape the card down. Let clay dry on a rack at room temperature for two or three days, then seal it before framing or posting it anywhere.

What owners in Groveland typically pay for a print
A paw print is one of the least expensive keepsakes there is. Many US crematories sell it as a small add-on: one Arizona provider lists a clay paw impression at $10, a nose print at $10 and a laser-engraved paw print at $15[6], and across the US price lists we've checked, paw-print add-ons have a median of about $32[7]. Prices in Groveland vary by provider, so ask whether a print is already included before you pay extra.
The full price table by product is on our Florida page, and the services page explains what each option includes.

What the law in Florida does and doesn't cover
Nothing in Florida restricts a paw print, a nose print or a lock of fur. What local rules do shape is where ashes may go, and some favorite places, such as parks, beaches and trails, need the landowner's permission. If that permission is hard to get, a print can carry the memory of the place instead: frame it beside a photo taken there, or have the trail's name engraved under the paw.

In order: the print, the aftercare, the keepsake
- If your pet is still with you, don't wait. Pick a quiet, settled moment, perhaps once they've eaten or come back from a walk, and make the print then. Prints taken while a pet is alive tend to come out sharpest.
- Choose your method. Clay if you want something to hold; ink or an inkless sheet if jewelry or engraving might come later. The kit chooser can settle it.
- Trim the tufts between the pads using round-ended scissors, so the paw rather than the hair leaves the impression.
- Hold the leg, not the paw, push down evenly in one motion, and raise it again without sliding. Make a few attempts and choose the sharpest one.
- Dry clay slowly indoors for two or three days, turning it, then seal it with a matte acrylic sealer.
- Photograph or scan the print flat in daylight. Makers can work from that image, so the original stays at home.
Shelf, wall or garden: where the print ends up
Some Groveland families plant a citrus tree as a memorial, a nod to the groves that once covered these hills. A biodegradable urn designed for planting can be placed beneath the roots. Others divide ashes into a keepsake pendant or small urns for family members. Ask for an estimate of the returned weight first, so no one is left without a share.

Questions people ask
Where are the providers that serve Groveland actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Orlando, about 27 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Groveland and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Groveland?
Usually yes. Minneola is about 5 miles away, Clermont is about 10 miles away and Tavares is about 12 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Roughly how many pets die in Groveland each year?
Our estimate is around 780. It comes from Groveland's population (about 25,526), the average household size, the share of homes with a dog or cat (about 9,400 households here) and the average lifespan. It is arithmetic, not a count, so read it as a rough floor.
Is cremation common in Florida?
For people, yes: about 72.5%[5] of Florida deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Groveland follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Why do so many owners miss the chance to take a print?
Because a print has a window. By our estimate, around 780 dogs and cats die in Groveland each year, many of them suddenly or at an emergency clinic, when a clay kit is the last thing on anyone's mind. Taking a print while your pet is well, or asking for one when you book aftercare, is the simplest way not to miss it.
Should I take a paw print while my senior pet is still alive?
If you can, yes. A relaxed living pet usually gives the clearest print, and you can take as many as you like without pressure. It can also give anticipatory grief something useful to do; in an RSPCA survey, 75.4%[9] of bereaved owners said they grieved before their pet died. Choose a calm, good day and keep the session short.
