Harmony, Florida
Home, clinic or crematory: paw prints in Harmony
Harmony residents can find memorial goods in St. Cloud and Kissimmee or choose from the huge range available online. There's no need to decide straight away; urns, stones, engraved pendants and framed prints can all wait until after cremation. If you'd like an ink or clay impression of a paw, though, take it at home on the first day, before collection.
Outdoor memorials in Harmony need to cope with fierce sun, heavy summer rain and humid nights. A granite marker in a sunny bed stays readable longer than a painted or wooden one. Many homeowners' associations have rules about what can go in front yards, so a backyard planter, a patio stone or an indoor shelf may be the easier place for a tribute.
Outdoor and barn cats are common around Harmony, and they don't always die where you'd expect. If you find your cat in a shed, under a hedge or in a hay loft, bring them inside to a cool, quiet spot and lay them on a towel before you do anything else. A print is often still possible, even some hours later. Clean the pads gently with a damp cloth first, because dust and straw show up in clay and ink.
With roughly 1,000 residents, Harmony is the 220th-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Orlando, about 28 miles (45 km) away, which is where some providers serving Harmony are based.
Families in Harmony often end up using a provider from Holopaw (6 miles, a larger centre), St. Cloud (9 miles, a larger centre) and Narcoossee (9 miles, a larger centre). That is normal: crematories serve a radius, not a single town, and the drive is priced into collection.
Our estimate
370
How many dog- or cat-owning households Harmony has (estimate)
How we calculated this
1,000 ÷ 2.5 = 400 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 370. Multi-pet homes count once.
Our estimate
30
dog and cat deaths per year in Harmony, our estimate
How we calculated this
370 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 30 a year. The real figure is unlikely to be lower.
53%[1]
53% of US households own a dog, which is about 71 million households.
12.69 years[2]
US dogs have an average life expectancy at birth of 12.69 years.
39%[3]
39% of US households own a cat, which is about 53 million households.
11.18 years[4]

How Florida thinks about cremation, and why prints matter
Because Florida cremates about 72.5%[5] of the people who die there, many families have no grave to visit, for people or for pets. Something has to take the place of a headstone, and a print does that job surprisingly well. It's physical, it's unmistakably your animal, and it can hang by the front door or sit on a desk. If you plan to scatter the ashes, the print may be the only memorial you keep.
We take the Florida rate from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for Harmony, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
Clay, ink and the local climate
Whatever the weather outside, think about where the finished print will live. A sunny windowsill fades ink, a bathroom's steam softens clay, and an attic or garage swings between heat and cold. A bookshelf in a living room, away from direct light, is the safest home. If you'd like something outdoors in Harmony, have a copy engraved in stone or metal and keep the original inside.

What owners in Harmony typically pay for a print
If you'd like the print framed with a lock of fur, one Northeast crematory network charges $133 for that combination and $23 for a fur clipping on its own[6]. Some water cremation providers bundle a print in too: an Arizona aquamation service includes an ink paw print in individual packages from $75 to $349[7]. In Harmony, it's worth asking every provider what comes with the package before adding extras.

Rules in Florida that touch on keepsakes
Renters in Florida often can't bury a pet in the yard without the landlord's agreement, and even where they can, the grave stays behind when the lease ends. That's one reason portable memorials such as prints are so popular. The notes below set out what Florida allows for burial and scattering; whatever they say, a print moves with you to the next address.
To find your county or city office in Florida, start with the official Florida local government directory.
Home burial and scattering are governed at the Florida level first; our Florida rules summary has the detail. Then check whether Harmony or your HOA adds anything.
Your paw print plan for Harmony
- Decide who will take the print: you at home, your vet, or the crematory at intake. The earlier in the process, the more control you have.
- Tell the crematory in writing you'd like a print, and request a picture of it ahead of the cremation.
- Ask how your pet is identified from collection to return, so the print and the ashes definitely belong together.
- Ask about fur clippings too; many providers can add a lock of fur to the print.
- Plan the finishing later. Jewelry or artwork can wait as long as it needs to; make that choice once you feel ready.
- If you'd like help, send us a few details; we'll write back by email laying out the options.
Turning a print into something lasting
Harmony's live-with-nature ethos makes a planted memorial feel especially right. Coontie or firebush set above a biodegradable urn draws butterflies and songbirds, and both cope with dry spells once their roots take hold. Should you sell the house one day, hold some ashes back in a pendant or a keepsake box, so part of the tribute can move to the next address with you.

Questions people ask
Roughly how many pets die in Harmony each year?
Our estimate is around 30. It comes from Harmony's population (about 1,000), the average household size, the share of homes with a dog or cat (about 370 households here) and the average lifespan. It is arithmetic, not a count, so read it as a rough floor.
Is cremation common in Florida?
For people, yes: about 72.5%[5] of Florida deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Harmony follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Will I have to travel to Orlando to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Orlando (roughly 28 miles from Harmony) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Harmony?
Usually yes. Holopaw is about 6 miles away, St. Cloud is about 9 miles away and Narcoossee is about 9 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
How do I get a nose print from my cat?
Cats have small noses and dislike being fussed, so pick a sleepy moment. Use an inkless wipe or the lightest dab of pet-safe ink on a soft sponge, then touch a small folded card to the nose from the front and lift away. Expect a faint, partial print; that's normal. Take several attempts over a few days rather than persisting in one session, and wipe the nose clean afterwards so your cat doesn't lick the residue.
Can I get my dog's nose print?
Yes. Dab a small amount of pet-safe ink onto the nose with a soft sponge, or use an inkless wipe, then press a folded card gently against the nose from the front. It usually takes a few tries. The ridges on a dog's nose make a striking engraving on a pendant or an urn, and many providers take a nose print alongside the paw.
