Getting a paw print in Lake Mary: the local picture
Lake Mary homes tend to be modern and well-maintained, and many families prefer memorials that fit a clean interior: a sleek ceramic urn, a framed print of a paw or hoof, or a small glass keepsake. Families who want an outdoor marker often find that a flush-set stone among the flower beds tends to satisfy association architectural committees more easily than anything upright.
The rainy season, from about June to September, brings heavy downpours and humidity that can mark wood and metal. Stone, porcelain and sealed glass hold up well if a memorial will sit on a screened porch or lanai. If you choose a tree urn, plant it at the start of the rains so the tree establishes before the drier months arrive.
Home burial on your own land is still common in and around Lake Mary, where local rules allow it. If that's your plan, you have more time and privacy than a city owner waiting for a collection van. Take the print at home before you wrap your pet: a calm half hour on the porch or the kitchen floor, with clay warmed in your hands.
Lake Mary's population is around 16,789, the 137th-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Orlando, about 16 miles (25 km) away, which is where some providers serving Lake Mary are based.
Nearby, we also have local pages for Sanford (3 miles, a larger centre), Longwood (4 miles) and Winter Springs (4 miles, a larger centre), which can help if your vet or the provider you prefer is based there.

Cremation habits in Florida and the print window
In Florida, about 72.5%[5] of people are cremated, one of the higher rates around. Where cremation is this familiar, pet crematories are well established and a paw print is often a standard line on the price list. The catch is that standard can mean automatic. Ask what kind of print they take, whether you can see it before cremation and whether you can have a second copy.
The Florida figure comes from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It describes people, not pets, so read it as a sign of local attitudes rather than a pet statistic.
Heat, humidity, cold and drying times
Strong sun in Lake Mary, especially around July, fades ink faster than most people expect. A framed paw print in a bright hallway can lose its crispness within a few summers. Hang it on a wall that doesn't catch direct light, choose UV-filtering glass and keep a scan of the original. And never leave a clay print or a resin cast inside a parked car, a garage or an attic in summer, where temperatures climb far above 92°F.
Around July, when highs in Lake Mary run near 92°F, a senior pet may be flat and uncomfortable in the afternoons. That's often a good time for a print, oddly enough: a hot, sleepy dog or cat lies still. Choose a cool room, keep sessions short, offer water and stop if your pet gets restless. You can always try again the next evening.

Where the money goes: the print, then the finishing
Engraving is the add-on that surprises people. By our estimate, name-and-dates engraving adds about 36%[6] to the price of a mid-priced wooden urn, and a paw print costs extra again. Before you pay for either in Lake Mary, check your pet insurance: some wellness add-ons reimburse end-of-life costs, and one plan's add-on could pay up to $650 toward cremation, burial and keepsakes[7]. Read the policy wording, then ask for an itemized quote.
Rather than repeat the price table on every city page, we keep one for Florida: Florida costs. What each service includes is on the services page.

Burial, scattering and prints in Florida
Nothing in Florida restricts a paw print, a nose print or a lock of fur. What local rules do shape is where ashes may go, and some favorite places, such as parks, beaches and trails, need the landowner's permission. If that permission is hard to get, a print can carry the memory of the place instead: frame it beside a photo taken there, or have the trail's name engraved under the paw.

In order: the print, the aftercare, the keepsake
- Decide who will take the print: you at home, your vet, or the crematory at intake. The earlier in the process, the more control you have.
- Tell the crematory in writing that you want a print, and ask for a photo of it before cremation.
- Ask how your pet is identified between pickup and return, so there's no doubt the print and ashes are theirs.
- Ask about fur clippings too; many providers can add a lock of fur to the print.
- Plan the finishing later. Jewelry or artwork can wait as long as it needs to; make that choice once you feel ready.
- If you'd like help, send us a few details and we'll reply by email with options.
From paw print to pendant, frame or garden stone
Many Lake Mary households moved here for work and have family spread across the country. Keepsake urns, pendants and small prints of paw impressions can be shared with relatives who never lived nearby. Before ordering, find out roughly what volume of ash will come back; a cat returns far less than a large animal, and that figure decides whether four pendants and two vials are realistic or whether a single shared urn makes more sense.

Questions people ask
Which nearby towns can I compare with Lake Mary?
The closest communities we cover are Sanford (about 3 miles), Longwood (about 4 miles) and Winter Springs (about 4 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Lake Mary too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Is cremation common in Florida?
For people, yes: about 72.5%[5] of Florida deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Lake Mary follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
When is the hardest time of year to arrange a burial in Lake Mary?
There is no frozen-ground season here; average lows stay above freezing all year. The other pressure point is July, when highs around 92°F mean a body needs cooling and collecting quickly.
Will I have to travel to Orlando to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Orlando (roughly 16 miles from Lake Mary) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
There's no engraver in Lake Mary. How do I turn a print into jewelry?
Photograph or scan the print flat in daylight, with no shadow, and send the image to a maker who works by mail. Most engraving and jewelry is made from an image, not the original. Keep the clay or ink print at home. If a maker needs the physical print for casting, wrap it well and use tracked postage.
How do I get a nose print from my cat?
Cats have small noses and dislike being fussed, so pick a sleepy moment. Use an inkless wipe or the lightest dab of pet-safe ink on a soft sponge, then touch a small folded card to the nose from the front and lift away. Expect a faint, partial print; that's normal. Take several attempts over a few days rather than persisting in one session, and wipe the nose clean afterwards so your cat doesn't lick the residue.
