Oviedo, Florida
Who takes paw prints in Oviedo
Oviedo's family neighborhoods and bigger lots give many households room for an outdoor tribute: a flat stone by the back porch, a cedar bench under a tree or a small bed of native plants. Families who expect to move for work or college may lean toward a lightweight urn or a plaster pawprint, either of which fits in a box on moving day.
UCF students and staff who live in Oviedo apartments sometimes need a memorial that fits a small bedroom: a keepsake vial, a pendant or a snapshot beside a paw impression in a shadow box. Families with deeper roots may favor a living memorial, such as a young oak or magnolia planted over a biodegradable urn, which echoes the town's long farming history.
Small-town clinics in Oviedo may close at weekends, so if your pet dies on a Saturday evening, you may be looking after them at home until Monday. A print can still be taken during that time. Keep your pet cool, lay them on a towel, and press the paw gently into warmed clay, or press the clay onto the paw if the leg has stiffened.
About 41,317 people live in Oviedo, which makes it the 76th-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. Orlando, roughly 14 miles off, is the closest larger centre, and a share of the providers who cover Oviedo run from there.
Our pages for Goldenrod (6 miles), Winter Springs (6 miles) and Union Park (7 miles) describe the same choices from those towns' point of view, and the providers overlap, so a quote from one often covers Oviedo as well.
Our estimate
15,000
Oviedo: dog- or cat-owning households, our estimate
How we calculated this
41,317 ÷ 2.5 = 16,527 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 15,000. Multi-pet homes count once.
Our estimate
1,250
dog and cat deaths per year in Oviedo, our estimate
How we calculated this
15,000 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 1,250 a year. The real figure is unlikely to be lower.

Local customs and the keepsake you keep
Cremation is the norm for people in Florida (about 72.5%[5] of deaths), and pet crematories there tend to offer a long menu of extras: paw prints, nose prints, fur clippings, name plates, photo urns. It's easy to feel you ought to say yes to everything. You don't have to. Pick the one or two things you'll actually look at in five years' time. For many families, that's a clear print and a small lock of fur.

Seasons in Oviedo and a print that lasts
If your pet dies at home during May, June, July, August and September, keeping them cool comes first and the print second. Move them to the coolest room, lay them on a towel over a hard floor and take the print within the first few hours, before the body stiffens. If collection is coming soon, ask the team to wait while you finish, or ask the crematory to take the print at intake.
Ink behaves differently in the Oviedo heat. Pet-safe ink pads dry out quickly in warm rooms, which gives a patchy print, and a warm, damp paw can slide and smudge. Take ink prints in the coolest room of the house, with the air conditioning on, and dry the paw with a towel first. Press straight down, lift straight up and take three or four prints so you can keep the clearest.

Where the money goes: the print, then the finishing
If the print is heading for jewelry, budget for the metal rather than the print. By our estimate, a typical sterling silver pet pendant costs about $190[6], and entry-level solid gold pieces at the same retailer cost about 15 times the silver equivalent[7]. Ask any maker in Oviedo whether the quote includes the chain, a proof image before production and engraving on the back, because those three extras are where quotes differ most.

Landlords, parks and permits in Florida
Nothing in Florida restricts a paw print, a nose print or a lock of fur. What local rules do shape is where ashes may go, and some favorite places, such as parks, beaches and trails, need the landowner's permission. If that permission is hard to get, a print can carry the memory of the place instead: frame it beside a photo taken there, or have the trail's name engraved under the paw.

How to make sure a print is taken in time
- For a horse, book the farrier to trim and clean the hoof first. Pick out the sole and dry it well.
- Press the hoof into a thick slab of clay laid on a board, or paint the sole with non-toxic paint and press it onto heavy card. Have someone hold the foot steady.
- Keep the last shoe and a length of tail or mane hair, since plenty of owners later have the hair plaited or cast in resin.
- For a bird or a very small pet, use very soft clay or inkless paper and the lightest pressure. Tiny toes show best in clay.
- For a fluffy cat or rabbit, go inkless so nothing ends up on fur they'll wash later; for rabbits especially, clay captures the long, narrow foot well.
- Dry and store every print indoors, and photograph it so a maker can work from the image.
From paw print to pendant, frame or garden stone
Central Florida humidity and afternoon storms age outdoor memorials quickly in Oviedo. Choose granite or dense stone with carved lettering, and bed it on packed gravel so heavy rain does not undermine it. Wood and resin fade within a few summers. If you want color, set a pot of seasonal flowers beside the stone and swap them out as the months change.

Questions people ask
Which nearby towns can I compare with Oviedo?
The closest communities we cover are Goldenrod (about 6 miles), Winter Springs (about 6 miles) and Union Park (about 7 miles). Providers based in those places often serve Oviedo too. Ask each one for a written total that includes collection, so the distance is priced in.
Roughly how many pets die in Oviedo each year?
Our estimate is around 1,250. It comes from Oviedo's population (about 41,317), the average household size, the share of homes with a dog or cat (about 15,000 households here) and the average lifespan. It is arithmetic, not a count, so read it as a rough floor.
How does Oviedo's weather affect pet aftercare?
July is the hottest month in Oviedo, with average highs around 92°F, so prompt collection matters most then. Winters are mild, with average lows staying above freezing, so outdoor burial or scattering is usually possible year round.
Is cremation common in Florida?
For people, yes: about 72.5%[5] of Florida deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Oviedo follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Can I get a print if my pet is being cremated near Orlando?
Yes. Many crematories take a print at intake and return it with the ashes. But if the crematory is some distance from Oviedo, it's easier to take the print locally, either yourself at home or through your vet before collection. That way you can check it's clear and redo it if needed.
Can I get a print of my bird's feet?
Yes, with care. Birds are light and their toes are delicate, so use very soft clay and the gentlest pressure, or an inkless kit with treated paper. Ink is best avoided because birds preen and may swallow it. An avian vet can help if your bird is nervous. The result is a lovely, delicate impression of the toes and scales.
