Ridgeland, Mississippi
How owners in Ridgeland get a paw print
Ridgeland is home to a crafts center on the Natchez Trace that showcases Mississippi artisans, and that tradition inspires some families to look for a handmade memorial. A hand-thrown ceramic urn, a turned wooden box or a piece of fused glass with a little ash worked in can feel more personal than a catalog piece. Ask any maker how they handle and return the remains.
Ridgeland families often choose memorials that suit contemporary homes and full calendars: a sleek ceramic urn, a small walnut box, a locket holding a trace of ash, or a framed paw print by the front door. Others prefer a garden stone. There's no rush; the ashes are safe in their original container until the right piece turns up, whether that's next week or next spring.
Small towns rarely have a pet memorial shop, but they nearly always have someone who engraves: a monument company that letters headstones, a trophy and awards shop, or a sign maker with a laser. Many will engrave a paw print from a clean scan onto slate, wood, metal or a garden stone. Take them a photo of your pet's print and ask whether they can reproduce the real pad shapes, not a generic clip-art paw.
With roughly 24,750 residents, Ridgeland is the 16th-largest of the 21 Mississippi communities we cover.
Ridgeland sits within easy reach of Madison (4 miles), Jackson (9 miles, a larger centre) and Pearl (11 miles). A provider based in any of them will usually collect from Ridgeland; ask what the mileage adds to the bill.
Our estimate
9,100
How many dog- or cat-owning households Ridgeland has (estimate)
How we calculated this
24,750 ÷ 2.5 = 9,900 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 9,100. Multi-pet homes count once.
Our estimate
760
Ridgeland families who lose a dog or cat each year (estimate)
How we calculated this
9,100 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 760 a year. The real figure is unlikely to be lower.

Local customs and the keepsake you keep
About <40%[5] of people in Mississippi are cremated, lower than in many places, and pet crematories can be fewer and further between. If your pet will be cremated some distance away, the print is best taken locally, by you or your vet, before the journey. Crematories often offer one at intake, but you can't check it if you're not there.
We take the Mississippi rate from Cremation.Green summary of CANA 2026 Annual Statistics Report (2025). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for Ridgeland, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
Clay, ink and the local climate
If you plan a 3D cast rather than a flat print, the Ridgeland heat changes the chemistry. Two-part silicone molding putty and casting resin both set faster when it's warm, so in June, July, August and September you may have only a minute or two to press the paw before the putty firms up. Work in an air-conditioned room, keep the kit in a cool cupboard beforehand and mix only once your pet is settled and in position.
Around August, when highs in Ridgeland run near 92°F, a senior pet may be flat and uncomfortable in the afternoons. That's often a good time for a print, oddly enough: a hot, sleepy dog or cat lies still. Choose a cool room, keep sessions short, offer water and stop if your pet gets restless. You can always try again the next evening.

Paw print costs around Ridgeland, line by line
If the print is heading for jewelry, budget for the metal rather than the print. By our estimate, a typical sterling silver pet pendant costs about $190[6], and entry-level solid gold pieces at the same retailer cost about 15 times the silver equivalent[7]. Ask any maker in Ridgeland whether the quote includes the chain, a proof image before production and engraving on the back, because those three extras are where quotes differ most.

What the law in Mississippi does and doesn't cover
Paw prints sit outside most regulation, but the aftercare around them doesn't. Your local council or city, and the wider rules for Mississippi, may limit burying a pet at home and scattering ashes in public places. Check the notes below before you plan a garden memorial with your pet's print pressed into it.
Not sure which office covers Ridgeland? The Mississippi local government directory is the official list.
The Mississippi page sets out who oversees pet cremation and what the state says about burial and scattering. Ridgeland's own bylaws can sit on top of that, so ask before you dig.
Getting a paw print in Ridgeland, step by step
- Mention the print when you book rather than waiting until the appointment itself, whether that's the euthanasia or the cremation. Ask the team to note it on the aftercare form.
- Ask what kind they take: a clay disc, an ink print or both. If you might want jewelry later, ask for an ink or inkless print as well.
- Ask for two copies if more than one person in the family would like one.
- Ask to see or photograph the print before your pet leaves the clinic, so it can be retaken if it's smudged.
- Check how it comes back: in your hands the same day, or alongside the ashes later, and what name goes on it.
- Keep the paperwork so that, once everything is returned, the invoice, ashes and print can be tied together.
From paw print to pendant, frame or garden stone
Muggy summers and thunderstorms rolling off the Reservoir age outdoor memorials faster than you might expect. For a stone in the lawn, granite or bronze lasts longest, especially seated on a gravel base that sheds water. Wood, glass and ceramic keepsakes are better off indoors, out of humid rooms and strong light, where their colors and finishes will hold for years.

Questions people ask
How many pet owners live in Ridgeland?
By our estimate, about 9,100 households in Ridgeland have at least one dog or cat, and around 760 are lost each year. We calculate this from the city's population of about 24,750, the average household size and national ownership and lifespan figures, so treat it as a floor rather than an exact count.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Ridgeland?
Usually yes. Madison is about 4 miles away, Jackson is about 9 miles away and Pearl is about 11 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
When is the hardest time of year to arrange a burial in Ridgeland?
There is no frozen-ground season here; average lows stay above freezing all year. The other pressure point is August, when highs around 92°F mean a body needs cooling and collecting quickly.
Is cremation common in Mississippi?
For people, yes: about <40%[5] of Mississippi deaths end in cremation, according to Cremation.Green summary of CANA 2026 Annual Statistics Report (2025). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Ridgeland follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Why is my clay paw print still soft days later?
Humidity slows air-dry clay a lot. In a damp spell, a print that feels firm on top can stay soft underneath for days. Keep it indoors on a wire rack, turn it every day and wait until it's pale and light all through before sealing. Don't put air-dry clay in the oven unless the kit says it's bakeable, or it can crack.
Why did my air-dry clay paw print crack?
Usually because it dried too fast. In hot, dry weather, or near a heater or sunny window, the outside shrinks before the inside has set, and the thin edges of the toes crack first. Next time, dry it slowly indoors at room temperature, loosely covered with a cloth for the first day. Small cracks can be filled with a little fresh clay and smoothed with a damp finger.
