Burial, cremation and paw prints in Nevada
Cremation is the norm for people in Nevada (about 80.7%[5] of deaths), and pet crematories there tend to offer a long menu of extras: paw prints, nose prints, fur clippings, name plates, photo urns. It's easy to feel you ought to say yes to everything. You don't have to. Pick the one or two things you'll actually look at in five years' time. For many families, that's a clear print and a small lock of fur.

Rules in Nevada mostly cover the practical side of a pet's death: where a body can be buried, how deep, and where ashes may be scattered. None of it stops you taking a print. A short checklist for a clean print
- If your pet dies unexpectedly at the clinic, ask for a few minutes alone with them before you go. Staff will almost always allow this, and many can fetch a print kit for you there and then.

- If you can't face doing it yourself, a nurse or technician can make the print while you step out of the room; ask them to show you the result before you head home.
- Get the crematory's name and your pet's reference number from the front desk, written down.
- If no print was taken, call the crematory first thing the next morning and ask for one at intake.
- Leave the urn and the other extras for later. The print is the only decision that can't wait.

For many families the lake is the memorial they imagine first. Tahoe's shoreline is a patchwork of private beaches, state parks such as Sand Harbor and federal forest, and water clarity is closely guarded, so get the owner's or agency's go-ahead before scattering. Does the Incline Village climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In July, with highs near 78°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. In January, February, March, April, November and December, when lows sit below freezing, a home burial may have to wait for a thaw, so cremation with ashes returned keeps your options open.
Where are the providers that serve Incline Village actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Reno, about 20 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Incline Village and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
Which nearby towns can I compare with Incline Village?

You can't take a new impression after cremation, but there are good alternatives. Check old vet records, the puppy or kitten pack from a breeder, and grooming photos. Some artists can also draw a lifelike paw from pictures of your pet's feet. It won't be the exact pad pattern, but many owners find it just as meaningful.
Will my vet or crematory take a paw print before cremation?
Most will if asked, and many include a clay or ink print in the package. But requests can be missed on a busy day, especially at emergency clinics. Mention it when you book, ask for it to be written on the aftercare form and ask whether it comes back to you that day or with the ashes. Once your pet has been cremated, the chance is gone.
