North Las Vegas, Nevada
Home, clinic or crematory: paw prints in North Las Vegas
In North Las Vegas, outdoor memorials have to stand up to intense sun and summer heat that fade and warp many materials. Granite, stainless steel and bronze last well, while painted wood, printed photos and cheap resin break down quickly. Placing a stone in the shade of a wall or tree, or keeping the memorial indoors, will keep it looking good for longer.
With small desert-landscaped yards and hard caliche soil, many families here choose memorials that don't need digging: an urn on a shelf, a keepsake pendant or ring with a little of the ashes, or a framed paw print. If you'd like to plant something, a desert-adapted tree or shrub in a large pot or raised bed is more practical than in-ground planting.
Before anything else happens to the original, get a good digital copy. A phone photo will do in a pinch, but a flatbed scanner at 600 dpi or more picks up the fine creases that engravers love. Many public libraries and print shops in and around North Las Vegas have one you can use for a small fee. Save the file in two places, and you can order copies, stamps or engravings for years without touching the original again.
North Las Vegas is home to about 296,653 people, the 3rd-largest of the 11 Nevada communities we cover. Las Vegas, roughly 9 miles off, is the closest larger centre, and a share of the providers who cover North Las Vegas run from there.

Our estimate
110,000
How many dog- or cat-owning households North Las Vegas has (estimate)
How we calculated this
296,653 ÷ 2.5 = 118,661 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 110,000. A household with several pets counts once.
Our estimate
9,100
North Las Vegas families who lose a dog or cat each year (estimate)
How we calculated this
110,000 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 9,100 a year. The real figure is unlikely to be lower.

What local funeral habits mean for a print
Cremation is the everyday choice in Nevada: about 80.7%[5] of people who die there are cremated. Pet aftercare tends to follow the same habits, which means most pets here end up as a small box of ashes. Ashes don't show a paw, a nose or the shape of a toe. That's a big part of why prints matter so much in high-cremation places, and why local crematories are so used to being asked for one.
That Nevada rate is a human one, published by Direct Cremate (citing CANA) (2024). We quote it for North Las Vegas only as a pointer to how families here already think about cremation.
Weather in North Las Vegas and your pet's print
Hot months in North Las Vegas are the best time for an outdoor project in the shade, but not for drying a print outdoors. Direct sun on an air-dry clay disc can warp it and crack the thin edges of the toes. Bring it inside, set it on a wire rack so air reaches both sides and give it two or three days before sealing it with a matte acrylic sealer.
Around July, when highs in North Las Vegas run near 105°F, a senior pet may be flat and uncomfortable in the afternoons. That's often a good time for a print, oddly enough: a hot, sleepy dog or cat lies still. Choose a cool room, keep sessions short, offer water and stop if your pet gets restless. You can always try again the next evening.

What owners in North Las Vegas typically pay for a print
Compared with the cremation itself, a print is a small line on the bill. Private dog cremation averages about $260[6] in the US, while paw-print add-ons at crematories range from about $10 to $76[7]. The bigger spend comes later, if you choose jewelry: a paw-print bangle bracelet from one crematory network costs $385[8]. Use the table to plan what fits your budget in North Las Vegas.

Burial, scattering and prints in Nevada
Rules in Nevada say a good deal about where a pet can be buried and very little about how a crematory keeps track of each animal. That's one more reason to take your own print: made before collection, it's a record you created yourself. Ask your provider how pets are tagged, and read the burial and scattering notes below for the rest.
To find your county or city office in Nevada, start with the official Nevada local government directory.
The Nevada page sets out who oversees pet cremation and what the state says about burial and scattering. North Las Vegas's own bylaws can sit on top of that, so ask before you dig.
How to make sure a print is taken in time
- Decide who will take the print: you at home, your vet, or the crematory at intake. The earlier in the process, the more control you have.
- Tell the crematory in writing you'd like a print, and request a picture of it ahead of the cremation.
- Ask how your pet is identified between pickup and return, so there's no doubt the print and ashes are theirs.
- Ask about fur clippings at the same time; many providers offer one with the print.
- Plan the finishing later. There's no rush to turn a print into jewelry or art; do it when you're ready.
- If you'd like help, send us a few details; we'll write back by email laying out the options.
Shelf, wall or garden: where the print ends up
Many people in the Las Vegas area moved here from other states, and some want part of a pet's ashes to go back to a hometown or family land. A private cremation with ashes returned makes that possible. Ask for the ashes to be divided into a main urn and smaller keepsakes, so everyone who loved your pet can have a part, wherever they live.

Questions people ask
Is cremation common in Nevada?
For people, yes: about 80.7%[5] of Nevada deaths end in cremation, according to Direct Cremate (citing CANA) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in North Las Vegas follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
Will I have to travel to Las Vegas to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Las Vegas (roughly 9 miles from North Las Vegas) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Roughly how many pets die in North Las Vegas each year?
Our estimate is around 9,100. It comes from North Las Vegas's population (about 296,653), the average household size, the share of homes with a dog or cat (about 110,000 households here) and the average lifespan. It is arithmetic, not a count, so read it as a rough floor.
Does the North Las Vegas climate change what I should do first?
Only the timing. In July, with highs near 105°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. Winters here are mild enough that burial or scattering is possible in any month.
How much does a paw print keepsake cost in North Las Vegas?
The print itself is usually inexpensive. US crematories list paw-print add-ons from about $10 to $76, with a median of about $32[7], and some include one in the cremation package. Finishing costs more: engraved paw prints on urns typically add $20 to $35, and paw or nose print pendants start at about $100. Ask providers in North Las Vegas what's already included.
How long before the print and ashes come back in North Las Vegas?
By our estimate, most pet crematories return ashes within about 3 to 14 days[10], and a print taken at intake usually travels with them. A print taken by your vet may come back sooner, handed to you on the day or posted separately. Ask providers in North Las Vegas which applies, and request a snapshot of the print if you'll be waiting a week or more; it's reassuring to know it came out clear.
