Keeping your pet's paw print in Aledo, Texas

Aledo, Texas

Who takes paw prints in Aledo

Parker County's hot summers, hailstorms and occasional ice storms are hard on outdoor memorials. Heavy granite and bronze hold up well; thin resin and painted concrete crack or fade. For a tree to mark the loss, a live oak or a redbud handles the heat and rocky soil west of Fort Worth after a couple of well-watered summers, and a live oak will outlast everyone who planted it.

Horse families in Aledo often like memorials tied to the barn: a nameplate from the stall door, a show ribbon framed with a photo, or a horseshoe mounted on the tack room wall. For smaller pets, a garden stone or keepsake urn is common. Dividing ashes so grown children or riding partners can keep a share is easy to arrange if you ask at the start.

If your pet will travel to a crematory near Fort Worth, the journey can take a day or two, depending on collection schedules. Many crematories offer a print at intake, which is a useful backup. But if you can, take your own before your pet leaves Aledo. That way you have it in your hands and don't depend on anyone else remembering.

Aledo is home to about 7,122 people, the 224th-largest of the 325 Texas communities we cover. Fort Worth, roughly 16 miles off, is the closest larger centre, and a share of the providers who cover Aledo run from there.

Our pages for Benbrook (8 miles, a larger centre), White Settlement (9 miles, a larger centre) and Westover Hills (12 miles) describe the same choices from those towns' point of view, and the providers overlap, so a quote from one often covers Aledo as well.

Our estimate

2,600

How many dog- or cat-owning households Aledo has (estimate)

How we calculated this

7,122 ÷ 2.5 = 2,849 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 2,600. Multi-pet homes count once.

Our estimate

220

Aledo families who lose a dog or cat each year (estimate)

How we calculated this

2,600 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 220 a year. Treat it as a minimum.

53%[1]

53% of US households own a dog, which is about 71 million households.

12.69 years[2]

US dogs have an average life expectancy at birth of 12.69 years.

39%[3]

39% of US households own a cat, which is about 53 million households.

11.18 years[4]

US cats seen at Banfield hospitals have an average life expectancy at birth of 11.18 years.

Burial, cremation and paw prints in Texas

Cremation has become steadily more common in Texas, now chosen for about 55.7%[5] of those who die there, and newer pet aftercare providers have arrived with it. Some offer a 3D scan of the paw or a digital print file alongside the clay. If a provider mentions this, ask whether you'll receive the file itself, in a standard format, so you can take it to any maker later rather than only through them.

NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) is where the Texas figure comes from. It counts people; we use it because attitudes to cremating a pet in Aledo tend to follow attitudes to cremation generally.

Getting a clean print in Aledo in any season

If you're planning a home goodbye in June, July, August and September, consider booking the vet for early morning. Your pet will be more comfortable before the heat builds, the house is cooler for taking a print, and collection can happen before the afternoon peak. Take the print first, while the morning is still quiet. If you'd hoped to say goodbye outside, a shaded corner of the yard at dawn is kinder than the afternoon sun.

If your pet dies at home during June, July, August and September, keeping them cool comes first and the print second. Move them to the coolest room, lay them on a towel over a hard floor and take the print within the first few hours, before the body stiffens. If collection is coming soon, ask the team to wait while you finish, or ask the crematory to take the print at intake.

Paw print prices: kits, add-ons and finishing

A paw print is one of the least expensive keepsakes there is. Many US crematories sell it as a small add-on: one Arizona provider lists a clay paw impression at $10, a nose print at $10 and a laser-engraved paw print at $15[6], and across the US price lists we've checked, paw-print add-ons have a median of about $32[7]. Prices in Aledo vary by provider, so ask whether a print is already included before you pay extra.

What the law in Texas does and doesn't cover

Rules in Texas say a good deal about where a pet can be buried and very little about how a crematory keeps track of each animal. That's one more reason to take your own print: made before collection, it's a record you created yourself. Ask your provider how pets are tagged, and read the burial and scattering notes below for the rest.

Not sure which office covers Aledo? The Texas local government directory is the official list.

Home burial and scattering are governed at the Texas level first; our Texas rules summary has the detail. Then check whether Aledo or your HOA adds anything.

Your paw print plan for Aledo

  1. Choose one calm afternoon to print every pet in the house, starting with the most relaxed animal.
  2. Label everything before you start: write each name on the reverse of its card, or scratch an initial into the base of each clay disc.
  3. Use a separate ink pad or wipe for each animal and clean every paw straight away, so no one licks ink off anyone else.
  4. Keep each turn short, a couple of minutes per pet, with a treat after every press.
  5. Make a combined piece if you like: all the paws on one big card or slab of clay becomes a whole-family portrait.
  6. Store the set together and date each one on the reverse, so that years from now none of them has gone astray.

Keeping the print and the memory close

Many Aledo properties have room for an outdoor memorial: a flat granite stone near the barn, a bench under a live oak, or a patch of native grasses and wildflowers by the fence. Indoors, a walnut box or cremation jewelry keeps your pet close. Pick a place along your daily path, whether to the barn or out to the mailbox.

Questions people ask

Where are the providers that serve Aledo actually based?

Some are local, and some run from Fort Worth, about 16 miles away. That is normal for a town this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Aledo and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.

Does the Aledo climate change what I should do first?

Only the timing. In August, with highs near 96°F, cool the body and book collection the same day. Winters here are mild enough that burial or scattering is possible in any month.

Is cremation common in Texas?

For people, yes: about 55.7%[5] of Texas deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Aledo follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.

Is Aledo big enough to have several pet aftercare providers?

Probably, on the numbers. By our estimate about 2,600 Aledo households keep a dog or cat and around 220 lose one each year, which is enough steady demand to support more than one provider. We derive that from population (about 7,122), household size and national ownership and lifespan figures.

Who else can take a paw print if my vet in Aledo doesn't?

Several people can. The crematory that serves Aledo normally makes one when your pet arrives. A mobile or home-visit vet may carry a kit. A groomer who knows your pet can tidy the paw fur and help you take one on a good day. And you can do it yourself with air-dry clay and a pet-safe ink pad from a craft store. What matters is that it happens before cremation or burial.

My pet was cremated without a paw print. Is there anything I can do?

You can't take a new impression after cremation, but there are good alternatives. Look through your photos for a clear shot of a paw, or of paw prints in snow, sand or mud; engravers and artists can trace one. Check old vet records, the puppy or kitten pack from a breeder, and grooming photos. Some artists can also draw a lifelike paw from pictures of your pet's feet. It won't be the exact pad pattern, but many owners find it just as meaningful.
