Round Rock, Texas
Getting a paw print in Round Rock: the local picture
Brushy Creek, the hill country to the west and the lakes around Austin are places many Round Rock families connect with their pets. Some scatter a small portion or plant a native tree with a biodegradable urn at home; others keep all the ashes indoors. Check with the landowner or park authority before scattering anywhere you do not own, and keep a portion back for keepsakes.
Many Round Rock homes are newer builds with modest yards, so families often choose memorials that sit on a patio or indoors: an urn on a mantel, a planted urn by the back door, or a stone in a flower bed. If you might move for work, as many families in the Austin area do, a portable memorial is easier to take with you. Choose where the memory will live first.
Children often want to help, and a print can give them a job that feels useful. Let them roll the clay, press their own hand beside the paw or choose the ribbon for the frame. If the print is being taken after death, a vet or crematory can do it privately and hand it back, so children see only the finished keepsake.
Round Rock is home to about 141,282 people, the 25th-largest of the 325 Texas communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Austin, about 17 miles (28 km) away, which is where some providers serving Round Rock are based.
If you want to compare providers, look at Pflugerville (6 miles), Hutto (8 miles) and Cedar Park (8 miles). Distance matters because pickup fees and the time until the ashes come back both grow with the drive.
Our estimate
52,000
Round Rock: dog- or cat-owning households, our estimate
How we calculated this
141,282 ÷ 2.5 = 56,513 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 52,000. Homes are counted once however many pets they keep.
Our estimate
4,350
dog and cat deaths per year in Round Rock, our estimate
How we calculated this
52,000 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 4,350 a year. A floor, not a ceiling.

Cremation habits in Texas and the print window
Human funerals in Texas split between cremation, at about 55.7%[5], and burial for most of the rest, so pet cemeteries and pet crematories both have a local following. If you're leaning toward a cemetery plot, ask what kind of marker they allow. Some accept an etched granite plaque, some a bronze plate cast from a clay print, and some only flat stones. The answer tells you whether you need a clay impression, a flat ink print or both.
We take the Texas rate from NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). It is a human statistic; there is no equivalent pet figure for Round Rock, and we would rather show a real number than invent one.
When the weather works against clay and ink
If your pet dies at home during May, June, July, August and September, keeping them cool comes first and the print second. Move them to the coolest room, lay them on a towel over a hard floor and take the print within the first few hours, before the body stiffens. If collection is coming soon, ask the team to wait while you finish, or ask the crematory to take the print at intake.
If you plan a 3D cast rather than a flat print, the Round Rock heat changes the chemistry. Two-part silicone molding putty and casting resin both set faster when it's warm, so in May, June, July, August and September you may have only a minute or two to press the paw before the putty firms up. Work in an air-conditioned room, keep the kit in a cool cupboard beforehand and mix only once your pet is settled and in position.

Paw print costs around Round Rock, line by line
By our estimate, around 765,000 US families a year[6] are open to a personalized pet keepsake, so providers in Round Rock are used to the question. The cheapest route is a home print, which costs only clay and a card. The next step up is a crematory add-on: by our estimate the median is about $32[7], and a clay paw impression can cost as little as $10[8]. Framing, engraving and silver are where totals climb.

Rules in Texas that touch on keepsakes
Rules in Texas say a good deal about where a pet can be buried and very little about how a crematory keeps track of each animal. That's one more reason to take your own print: made before collection, it's a record you created yourself. Ask your provider how pets are tagged, and read the burial and scattering notes below for the rest.
To find your county or city office in Texas, start with the official Texas local government directory.
For Texas's rules on burying a pet at home or scattering ashes, see the Texas guide. Local rules in Round Rock can be stricter than the state's, especially in homeowners' associations and rentals.
How to make sure a print is taken in time
- Skip the table. Bring the clay or card to wherever your pet likes to lie, on the floor or on their own bed.
- Recruit a second person whose only job is calming your pet, stroking and talking, while you handle the paw.
- Use a lick mat or a few treats to keep your pet's attention forward and their head still.
- Don't straighten a stiff leg. Work with the position it's in: slip a board beneath the paw and raise the clay to it.
- Stop after a few tries if your pet gets stressed. Try again tomorrow, or ask your vet to help at the next visit.
- Try an inkless kit for a pet who can't stand wet feet, since it leaves nothing behind to clean up.
From paw print to pendant, frame or garden stone
Paw prints, nose prints and fur clippings can only be taken before cremation, so ask about them at the start. In busy family households, dividing ashes into a few small keepsakes lets children and relatives each hold something. Engraving, jewelry and memorial stones can be ordered in the weeks afterward, once you have had time to decide what fits your home.

Questions people ask
Will I have to travel to Austin to arrange things?
Not usually. Providers based in Austin (roughly 17 miles from Round Rock) collect from here as a matter of routine, and the paperwork is done by email or phone. If you want to be present for a witnessed cremation, that is when the drive matters.
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Round Rock?
Usually yes. Pflugerville is about 6 miles away, Hutto is about 8 miles away and Cedar Park is about 8 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Is cremation common in Texas?
For people, yes: about 55.7%[5] of Texas deaths end in cremation, according to NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024). Nobody publishes the same figure for pets, but in our experience pet choices in Round Rock follow the human pattern closely, so cremation is the default most families here start from.
When is the hardest time of year to arrange a burial in Round Rock?
There is no frozen-ground season here; average lows stay above freezing all year. The other pressure point is August, when highs around 98°F mean a body needs cooling and collecting quickly.
Can I take the print myself before the vet or crematory arrives?
Absolutely, and many people prefer to. Have the clay warmed or the card taped down before the appointment, choose a quiet room and take a few prints while your pet is calm. If collection is happening after a home euthanasia, the team will usually wait a few minutes while you take one afterwards too. Just let them know.
How do I stop an ink paw print from smudging?
Dry the paw with a towel first, tape the card to a hard surface and press straight down with steady pressure, then lift straight up without sliding. Too much ink blurs the pads, so dab lightly. Take three or four prints and keep the clearest. Let the ink dry fully before touching it, especially in humid weather.
