Paw Print Keepsakes in Southern Denmark: what to know
Paw prints in Southern Denmark aren't only for dogs and cats. Horse owners keep hoof prints pressed into clay slabs, bird owners capture tiny feet in soft clay, and rabbit owners find that clay shows the long, furry shape of the hind foot better than ink. Each needs a slightly different approach, and each city page covers the basics.
Across Southern Denmark, most pet crematories offer a clay or ink paw print, sometimes included in the package and sometimes as a small extra. But many owners don't know to ask until afterwards. The simplest habit is to mention the print on the very first call, whether that's to your vet, an in-home euthanasia service or the crematory.

Local customs and the keepsake you keep
When roughly 86.48%[1] of human funerals in Southern Denmark end in cremation, the whole system is built for speed, and pet aftercare often runs the same way. Collection can be booked for the same afternoon, and some crematories cremate within a day or two. That efficiency is a kindness, but it also shrinks the time in which a print can be taken. Ask how soon cremation will happen, and if it's quick, take the print yourself before collection.
We take the Southern Denmark percentage from Cremation Society of Great Britain, International Cremation Statistics 2023 (2023). It refers to people; attitudes to cremating a pet tend to follow it.
Paw print prices: kits, add-ons and finishing
Europe has more pet cats than dogs: about 108 million cats[2] against roughly 89.6 million dogs[3]. Cat paws are small and neat, so a print of all four often fits on one card or a single clay disc, and many crematoria include one for cats within the package. Before choosing a provider in Southern Denmark, ask whether VAT is included and whether the print is clay, ink or both.
We haven't found reliable published prices for paw prints in Europe; most pet crematoria include them in a package or quote on request. For context, individual cremation in Germany is listed at about €165 to €375[4]. In Southern Denmark, ask your vet or the crematorium for a written price that shows the print, the urn and any engraving separately.
| Item | Published price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Individual cremation, Germany | €165 to €375[4] | Ask whether a Pfotenabdruck is included |
| Individual cremation, Ireland (up to 10 kg) | €250[5] | Ask about clay or ink prints |
| Resin paw cast, UK (small dog) | from £120[6] | For comparison |
| Clay paw print, US crematory network | $76[7] | For comparison |
| Paw print on its own in Europe | No published price found | Ask for a written quote |

What Southern Denmark allows after your pet dies
Renters in Southern Denmark often can't bury a pet in the yard without the landlord's agreement, and even where they can, the grave stays behind when the lease ends. That's one reason portable memorials such as prints are so popular. The notes below set out what Southern Denmark allows for burial and scattering; whatever they say, a print moves with you to the next address.
A short checklist for a clean print
- Skip the table. Bring the clay or card to wherever your pet likes to lie, on the floor or on their own bed.
- Recruit a second person whose only job is calming your pet, stroking and talking, while you handle the paw.
- Use a lick mat or a few treats to keep your pet's attention forward and their head still.
- Don't straighten a stiff leg. Slide a board under the paw and bring the clay up to meet it.
- Stop after a few tries if your pet gets stressed. Try again tomorrow, or ask your vet to help at the next visit.
- Try an inkless kit for a pet who can't stand wet feet, since it leaves nothing behind to clean up.
Remembering your pet through their print
A garden stone with your pet's paw pressed into it is a lovely outdoor memorial, especially where they used to lie in the sun. Make it from the clay print as a template, or ask a local stonemason to engrave the scanned image. Our guide to displaying prints and engraved tags has more ideas.

Questions people ask
Can I get a hoof print from a horse in Southern Denmark?
Yes. Ask your farrier to trim and clean the hoof, then press it into a thick clay slab or paint the sole with non-toxic paint and press it onto heavy card. Many horse owners also keep the last shoe and a braid of tail hair. Do it while your horse is still well if you can.
What if my pet is cremated far from home?
In rural parts of Southern Denmark, pets are often cremated in a larger town some distance away. Take the print locally before collection, yourself or through your vet, so you can check it. Many crematories also take one at intake as a backup and return it with the ashes.
What do other owners in Southern Denmark choose for a paw print keepsake?
We don't publish made-up figures on that. We do run short, anonymous polls on what readers chose, from clay discs to engraved jewelry, and you can see the live results. They count one vote per person and aren't a scientific survey, but they give a feel for how other owners decided.
Can I get more than one copy of my pet's print in Southern Denmark?
Yes. Request two prints from your vet or crematory at the time of booking; it's a common request and usually costs little extra. Ink prints take seconds, so a home session can produce as many as you like. If you only have one original, scan it and have copies printed, engraved or cast, so every person in the family has their own without anyone giving up the original.
Where can I get a paw print keepsake in Southern Denmark?
Across Southern Denmark, most vets, in-home euthanasia vets and pet crematories can take a clay or ink paw print, usually before cremation. You can also take one yourself at home with a kit. For jewelry, engraving or art, local makers and online studios both work from a clear print or a scan. Ask for the print when you book aftercare, not afterwards.
How much does a paw print cost in Southern Denmark?
Published prices for prints alone are scarce, because most are sold within a cremation package or quoted on request. As a benchmark, a US crematory network lists a clay paw print at $76[7], and a UK studio casts a small dog's paw in resin from about £120[6]. Ask local providers for a written price.
