Paw Print Keepsakes in Indonesia: what to know
In Indonesia, as elsewhere, families increasingly keep a print even when they choose communal cremation or a simple burial. It's affordable, and it works whether or not ashes come home. If cost is a worry, start there: making one at home is cheap, and you can decide on finishing it, or not, much later.
Every country organizes pet aftercare its own way, and Indonesia is no exception. On any provider's list, look for three things: whether a print is included, what material it's made in, and whether it's taken before or after your pet leaves the clinic. Those answers matter more than the name on the van.

Cremation habits in Indonesia and the print window
Customs around death differ widely in Indonesia, and local figures for cremation are hard to pin down. What is universal is that a print can only be made while your pet is still here, or in the hours after death. Whatever the local habit for burial or cremation, plan the print first.
Paw print costs around Indonesia, line by line
In Japan, by our estimate about 85% of owners who state a preference want an individual pet funeral rather than a joint one[1], and packages there often include keepsake options. Even communal cremation of a small pet at one Tokyo memorial park costs JPY 14,300[2]. Wherever you are in Asia, check with providers in Indonesia that a paw print is listed among the package contents, and ask to see an example.
In some Asian cities, the public route leaves nothing behind. Hong Kong's government, for instance, advises owners that a bagged animal can go to a refuse collection point, from where it goes to landfill[3]. Any keepsake, including a print, then depends on you or a private provider. If cost is the worry in Indonesia, a home print costs very little and can be taken before you decide anything else.
| Place or item | Published price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tokyo, individual cremation, pet under 5 kg | JPY 22,000[2] | Tax included; ask about a print |
| Singapore, private cremation, cat under 5 kg | SGD 280[4] | Niches extra |
| Hong Kong, individual cremation, 1 to 5 kg pet | HKD 1,300[5] | Basic package |
| Paw print add-on (US median, for comparison) | about $32[6] | No published local price found |

Rules in Indonesia that touch on keepsakes
Some towns and councils in Indonesia run a collection service for pets who die at home, usually without returning any ashes. If that's the route you take, a print will be the only keepsake you have, so take it before you call. The notes below cover the other options: home burial, pet cemeteries and scattering ashes.
What to do first, and what can wait
- For a horse, book the farrier to trim and clean the hoof first. Pick out the sole and dry it well.
- Press the hoof into a thick slab of clay resting on a board, or coat the sole in non-toxic paint and set it down on stiff card. Ask a helper to keep the leg still while you do it.
- Keep the last shoe and a length of tail or mane hair, since plenty of owners later have the hair plaited or cast in resin.
- For a bird or a very small pet, use very soft clay or inkless paper and the lightest pressure. Tiny toes show best in clay.
- For a fluffy cat or rabbit, an inkless kit avoids ink on fur they'll groom later, and clay shows the long shape of a rabbit's foot.
- Dry and store every print indoors, then take a photo so any maker can use the picture, not the original.
Ways families in Indonesia keep a print close
A clear print can become almost anything: a silver charm, an engraved urn, a ceramic tile, an embroidered cushion or the stencil for a tattoo. You don't have to decide straight away. Keep the original safe, photograph it and come back to the question in a few months, when you know what you'd like to see every day.
Next: see what each choice includes on services, run your own numbers in the tools, check the poll results, or pick another area from all locations.

Questions people ask
Can children help make a paw print?
Often, yes, and many find it helps. Let them roll the clay, pick the frame or add their own handprint next to the paw. When the print is made after death, a vet or another adult can take it privately and show them the result. There are age-by-age ideas in our children's print-making guide.
What do other owners in Indonesia choose for a paw print keepsake?
We don't publish made-up figures on that. We do run short, anonymous polls on what readers chose, from clay discs to engraved jewelry, and you can see the live results. They count one vote per person and aren't a scientific survey, but they give a feel for how other owners decided.
How much does a paw print cost in Indonesia?
Published prices for prints alone are scarce, because most are sold within a cremation package or quoted on request. As a benchmark, a US crematory network lists a clay paw print at $76[8], and a UK studio casts a small dog's paw in resin from about £120[9]. Ask local providers for a written price.
Can I get a hoof print from a horse in Indonesia?
Yes. Ask your farrier to trim and clean the hoof, then press it into a thick clay slab or paint the sole with non-toxic paint and press it onto heavy card. Many horse owners also keep the last shoe and a braid of tail hair. Do it while your horse is still well if you can.
What if my pet is cremated far from home?
In rural parts of Indonesia, pets are often cremated in a larger town some distance away. Take the print locally before collection, yourself or through your vet, so you can check it. Many crematories also take one at intake as a backup and return it with the ashes.
Can I get more than one copy of my pet's print in Indonesia?
Yes. Request two prints from your vet or crematory at the time of booking; it's a common request and usually costs little extra. Ink prints take seconds, so a home session can produce as many as you like. If you only have one original, scan it and have copies printed, engraved or cast, so every person in the family has their own without anyone giving up the original.
