Paw Print Keepsakes in Asturias: what to know

Two free tools help owners across Asturias plan a print. The paw print kit chooser matches clay, ink, inkless and casting kits to your pet's size, coat and temperament, and the memorial budget planner shows what a print costs next to framing, engraving or jewelry. Use them before you call a provider, so you know what to ask for.

Across Asturias, most pet crematories offer a clay or ink paw print, sometimes included in the package and sometimes as a small extra. But many owners don't know to ask until afterwards. The simplest habit is to mention the print on the very first call, whether that's to your vet, an in-home euthanasia service or the crematory.

What local funeral habits mean for a print

About 50.11%[1] of people in Asturias are cremated, so cremation and burial are both common. Pet owners are split the same way: some bury at home or in a pet cemetery, others choose cremation. Either way, a print should be taken first. With a burial you usually have more time and can do it yourself; with cremation, ask the vet or crematory when you book.

We take the Asturias percentage from Infobae, citing PANASEF (Spanish funeral services association) (2024). It refers to people; attitudes to cremating a pet tend to follow it.

Paw print costs around Asturias, line by line

We haven't found reliable published prices for paw prints in Europe; most pet crematoria include them in a package or quote on request. For context, individual cremation in Germany is listed at about €165 to €375[2]. In Asturias, ask your vet or the crematorium for a written price that shows the print, the urn and any engraving separately.

European crematoria often price by package rather than by item. An Irish crematorium, for example, lists individual cremation from €250 for cats or dogs up to 10 kg[3]. A print is usually a modest extra within that, and jewelry or engraving from a print is priced separately by the maker. Ask providers in Asturias what's included before you choose.

Rules in Asturias that touch on keepsakes

Renters in Asturias often can't bury a pet in the yard without the landlord's agreement, and even where they can, the grave stays behind when the lease ends. That's one reason portable memorials such as prints are so popular. The notes below set out what Asturias allows for burial and scattering; whatever they say, a print moves with you to the next address.

In order: the print, the aftercare, the keepsake

  1. Choose one calm afternoon and do all the pets together, beginning with whichever one is least bothered by handling.
  2. Label everything before you start: a name on the back of each card, or a letter scratched into the underside of each clay disc.
  3. Use a separate ink pad or wipe for each animal then wipe each paw clean the moment you're done, so nobody licks ink off a housemate.
  4. Keep each turn short, no more than a minute or two each, and reward every press with a treat.
  5. Make a combined piece if you like: all the paws on one big card or slab of clay becomes a whole-family portrait.
  6. Store the set together with the date written on the back, so no print goes missing over the years.

Remembering your pet through their print

Frames are the simplest option and often the most loved. An ink print on acid-free card, behind UV-filtering glass and out of direct sun, will stay crisp for decades. Add a photo and an engraved tag with your pet's name, and you have a small memorial that fits on any wall.

The services page compares what each option includes, the planning tools turn your animal's details into figures, and the poll results show what other families chose. All locations lists every region we cover.

Questions people ask

Can my vet in Asturias take a paw print before cremation?

Almost always, if you ask in time. Mention it when you book the appointment or the cremation, ask for it on the aftercare form and ask to see it before your pet leaves. If the vet can't, the crematory can usually take one at intake. After cremation, it's too late.

Should I take a print of my senior pet now?

If you can, yes. A relaxed, living pet usually gives the crispest print, and there's no time pressure. Choose a calm, good day, after a meal or a walk, and take several so you can keep the clearest. Many owners in Asturias say the afternoon itself becomes a memory.

What if my pet is cremated far from home?

In rural parts of Asturias, pets are often cremated in a larger town some distance away. Take the print locally before collection, yourself or through your vet, so you can check it. Many crematories also take one at intake as a backup and return it with the ashes.

Can I get more than one copy of my pet's print in Asturias?

Yes. Request two prints from your vet or crematory at the time of booking; it's a common request and usually costs little extra. Ink prints take seconds, so a home session can produce as many as you like. If you only have one original, scan it and have copies printed, engraved or cast, so every person in the family has their own without anyone giving up the original.

How much does a paw print cost in Asturias?

Published prices for prints alone are scarce, because most are sold within a cremation package or quoted on request. As a benchmark, a US crematory network lists a clay paw print at $76[5], and a UK studio casts a small dog's paw in resin from about £120[4]. Ask local providers for a written price.

Can children help make a paw print?

Often, yes, and many find it helps. Let them roll the clay, pick the frame or add their own handprint next to the paw. When the print is made after death, a vet or another adult can take it privately and show them the result. There are age-by-age ideas in our children's print-making guide.
