Paw Print Keepsakes in Sharjah: what to know

Across Sharjah, most pet crematories offer a clay or ink paw print, sometimes included in the package and sometimes as a small extra. But many owners don't know to ask until afterwards. The simplest habit is to mention the print on the very first call, whether that's to your vet, an in-home euthanasia service or the crematory.

Two free tools help owners across Sharjah plan a print. The paw print kit chooser matches clay, ink, inkless and casting kits to your pet's size, coat and temperament, and the memorial budget planner shows what a print costs next to framing, engraving or jewelry. Use them before you call a provider, so you know what to ask for.

How Sharjah thinks about cremation, and why prints matter

Customs around death differ widely in Sharjah, and local figures for cremation are hard to pin down. What is universal is that a print can only be made while your pet is still here, or in the hours after death. Whatever the local habit for burial or cremation, plan the print first.

Paw print prices: kits, add-ons and finishing

Where local providers are few, a paw print can cost almost nothing: some clay, a card and a phone to photograph the result. That photo is what most jewelers and engravers work from, so you're not tied to makers in Sharjah. For comparison, engraving a paw print onto an urn typically adds $20–$35[1] in the US, according to one retailer. Budget for the finishing and the shipping, and ask any overseas maker for a proof before they cut metal.

In many countries, the cheaper option is communal cremation, with no ashes returned. In the UAE, for example, shared cremation for pets below 5 kg is quoted at about AED 700 to 900[2]. If that's your route in Sharjah, the print becomes the main keepsake, so take it at home before collection and make two copies. It's the one memorial that doesn't depend on getting ashes back.

What the law in Sharjah does and doesn't cover

Nothing in Sharjah restricts a paw print, a nose print or a lock of fur. What local rules do shape is where ashes may go, and some favorite places, such as parks, beaches and trails, need the landowner's permission. If that permission is hard to get, a print can carry the memory of the place instead: frame it beside a photo taken there, or have the trail's name engraved under the paw.

In the UAE, burying pets isn't permitted, so families who want a keepsake usually arrange private cremation[8]. That makes the print especially important, because there's no grave to visit. Take it at home in an air-conditioned room before collection, or ask the provider to take one first. Summer heat means the first hours matter, so keep your pet cool.

A short checklist for a clean print

  1. If your pet is still with you, don't wait. Take a print on a calm, good day, after a meal or a walk, when your pet is relaxed. A print from a living pet is usually the clearest.
  2. Choose your method. Clay for something to hold, ink or inkless paper for engraving and jewelry later. Our kit chooser helps you decide.
  3. Trim the tufts between the pads using round-ended scissors, so the paw rather than the hair leaves the impression.
  4. Hold the leg, not the paw, and press straight down with steady pressure, then lift straight up. Take several prints and keep the clearest.
  5. Dry clay slowly indoors over two to three days, flipping it now and then, and finish with a coat of matte acrylic sealer.
  6. Photograph or scan the print flat in daylight. Makers can work from that image, so the original stays at home.

Remembering your pet through their print

A garden stone with your pet's paw pressed into it is a lovely outdoor memorial, especially where they used to lie in the sun. Make it from the clay print as a template, or ask a local stonemason to engrave the scanned image. Our guide to displaying prints and engraved tags has more ideas.

Questions people ask

Where can I get a paw print keepsake in Sharjah?

Across Sharjah, most vets, in-home euthanasia vets and pet crematories can take a clay or ink paw print, usually before cremation. You can also take one yourself at home with a kit. For jewelry, engraving or art, local makers and online studios both work from a clear print or a scan. Ask for the print when you book aftercare, not afterwards.

Can children help make a paw print?

Often, yes, and many find it helps. Let them roll the clay, pick the frame or add their own handprint next to the paw. When the print is made after death, a vet or another adult can take it privately and show them the result. There are age-by-age ideas in our children's print-making guide.

Is it better to use a local maker in Sharjah or order online?

Either works. A local jeweler, engraver or ceramic studio lets you see samples and hand the print over in person. Online makers usually work from a photo or scan, so the original stays at home. Ask for a proof before production and check the turnaround time.

How much does a paw print cost in Sharjah?

Published prices for prints alone are scarce, because most are sold within a cremation package or quoted on request. As a benchmark, a US crematory network lists a clay paw print at $76[3], and a UK studio casts a small dog's paw in resin from about £120[6]. Ask local providers for a written price.

Are there rules about paw prints in Sharjah?

No. You can take, keep, post and display a paw print, cast or ashes pendant freely. The rules in Sharjah cover burial and scattering, which matter if you plan a garden stone set with the print or want to scatter ashes after keeping a pinch for jewelry.

Can I get a hoof print from a horse in Sharjah?

Yes. Ask your farrier to trim and clean the hoof, then press it into a thick clay slab or paint the sole with non-toxic paint and press it onto heavy card. Many horse owners also keep the last shoe and a braid of tail hair. Do it while your horse is still well if you can.
