Hialeah, Florida
Paw print keepsakes in Hialeah: where to start
Hialeah homes are often compact, with small yards and patios, and many families share a home across generations. A small urn near family photos, a framed paw print or cremation jewelry holding a little ash are all popular. A small stone or plaque can fit on a patio. Choose something that suits everyone who lives in the house. Photos and candles often sit alongside.
Many Hialeah families have relatives elsewhere in Florida, in other states or in other countries, so sharing ashes is a common wish. Small keepsake urns or jewelry let several people keep something. There's no need to decide straight away. Bring ashes home in a simple container and choose lasting pieces once the family has talked it through. Relatives abroad can join the conversation by phone.
If your pet is a senior with good days left, a routine vet visit in Hialeah can be a gentle moment to ask about a print. Some clinic teams will help take one there and then, with treats on hand. You can also do it at home after a long walk, when your dog is tired, or after a meal, when your cat is sleepy and relaxed.
Hialeah's population is around 230,968, the 8th-largest of the 235 Florida communities we cover. The nearest larger centre is Miami, about 9 miles (14 km) away, which is where some providers serving Hialeah are based.
Families in Hialeah often end up using a provider from Miami Lakes (5 miles), Hialeah Gardens (5 miles) and Doral (6 miles). That is normal: crematories serve a radius, not a single town, and the drive is priced into collection.
Our estimate
85,000
How many dog- or cat-owning households Hialeah has (estimate)
How we calculated this
230,968 ÷ 2.5 = 92,387 households; × 53% (dog) + 39% (cat) = 85,000. A household with several pets counts once.
Our estimate
7,100

How we calculated this
85,000 dog/cat-owning homes ÷ average lifespan (dog: 12.69 yrs + cat: 11.18 yrs) ≈ 7,100 a year. A floor, not a ceiling.

Ashes, graves and the print that comes first
In Florida, about 72.5%[5] of people are cremated, one of the higher rates around. Where cremation is this familiar, pet crematories are well established and a paw print is often a standard line on the price list. The catch is that standard can mean automatic. Ask what kind of print they take, whether you can see it before cremation and whether you can have a second copy.

Weather in Hialeah and your pet's print
Summers in Hialeah are hot: August averages highs around 91°F. Heat is hard on air-dry clay. In dry heat the surface skins over and cracks before the inside has set, so dry your print slowly indoors, away from sunny windows and air vents, and turn it every few hours. In humid heat the opposite happens: the clay stays soft for days, so be patient and don't try to speed it up in the oven unless the kit says it's bakeable.
If you plan a 3D cast rather than a flat print, the Hialeah heat changes the chemistry. Two-part silicone molding putty and casting resin both set faster when it's warm, so in May, June, July, August, September and October you may have only a minute or two to press the paw before the putty firms up. Work in an air-conditioned room, keep the kit in a cool cupboard beforehand and mix only once your pet is settled and in position.

Paw print prices: kits, add-ons and finishing
If you'd like the print framed with a lock of fur, one Northeast crematory network charges $133 for that combination and $23 for a fur clipping on its own[6]. Some water cremation providers bundle a print in too: an Arizona aquamation service includes an ink paw print in individual packages from $75 to $349[7]. In Hialeah, it's worth asking every provider what comes with the package before adding extras.

What the law in Florida does and doesn't cover
Nothing in Florida restricts a paw print, a nose print or a lock of fur. What local rules do shape is where ashes may go, and some favorite places, such as parks, beaches and trails, need the landowner's permission. If that permission is hard to get, a print can carry the memory of the place instead: frame it beside a photo taken there, or have the trail's name engraved under the paw.
The official Florida local government directory lists every county and city office, which is the quickest way to find who to ask in Hialeah.
For Florida's rules on burying a pet at home or scattering ashes, see the Florida guide. Local rules in Hialeah can be stricter than the state's, especially in homeowners' associations and rentals.
Getting a paw print in Hialeah, step by step
- Tell your child what's happening in plain words, and ask whether they'd like to help with the print. Our guide to print-making with children suggests roles for different ages.
- Give them a real job: rolling the clay, choosing the card color or writing the name.
- Let them press a hand or fingerprint next to the paw, if they'd like to.
- If the print is taken after death, let an adult or the vet do it, and show your child the finished keepsake.
- Make a copy for your child's room, so the original can stay somewhere safe.
- Come back to it later. One child wants it framed the same week; another won't look at it for months.
Remembering your pet through their print
South Florida's sun, salt air and storms are hard on outdoor memorials, so choose granite, stainless steel or weather-rated finishes for anything left outside. A tropical plant or small tree in a pot or garden can be a living memorial. If you'd like to scatter ashes at sea or on a canal, check the rules first and choose a calm day.

Questions people ask
Can a provider from a neighbouring town collect from Hialeah?
Usually yes. Miami Lakes is about 5 miles away, Hialeah Gardens is about 5 miles away and Doral is about 6 miles away, all inside a normal collection radius. Get the mileage written into the quote so there is no surprise on the day.
Where are the providers that serve Hialeah actually based?
Some are local, and some run from Miami, about 9 miles away. That is normal for a city this size. What matters is the collection time they quote for Hialeah and whether the drive is priced into the total, so ask both up front.
How do Florida attitudes to cremation compare?
NFDA 2024 Cremation & Burial Report state projections (via Occasional Sage) (2024) puts the Florida human cremation rate at about 72.5%[5]. We show it on the Hialeah page because pet aftercare choices tend to track it: where cremation is normal for people, communal and private pet cremation are both easy to find.
How many pet owners live in Hialeah?
By our estimate, about 85,000 households in Hialeah have at least one dog or cat, and around 7,100 are lost each year. We calculate this from the city's population of about 230,968, the average household size and national ownership and lifespan figures, so treat it as a floor rather than an exact count.
Why take a paw print in Hialeah if I already have plenty of photos?
Photos show what your pet looked like; a print records something you touched every day, at actual size. We estimate Hialeah has around 85,000 dog- or cat-owning homes and loses about 7,100 of those pets a year. Most of those owners have hundreds of photos. The difference is that photos can be found later, while a print only exists if someone makes it before the body is cremated or buried, which is why it's worth doing first.
Can a paw print be taken after my pet has died?
Yes. A print can usually be taken in the first hours after death at home, and later by a vet or crematory before cremation. If the leg has stiffened, press the clay gently onto the paw rather than forcing the paw down. A print from a relaxed, living pet tends to be crisper, which is why many owners take one while their pet is still a healthy senior.
